1883

 

In the 1883 diary which follows, capital letters appear more often and his handwriting is much more legible.  He was almost 21 years old at this time.

 

Monday, January 1, 1883 – I helped to do the chores and in the forenoon I drove down to Bedlam to See about getting a place to put a horse when I went to school down there.  & in the afternoon father & I drawed a small load of Hay from the Hay barn & then I took a small load down to Bedlam to Mrs. Guthries Barn & father chored around and at night I went down to Bedlam to a new years arch at the U. P. church and Emma came Home with G. B. and it is a pretty cloudy day some clear & cold.
Jan. 2 – I went down to Bedlam to school for the first and I helped to do the chores and and I drive a Horse down to school & Orrie goes to.  and Father took a grist down to Bedlam and brought it Home again.  and at night we measured up some Oats and it is a pretty cloudy day some clear cleared off colder at night.

Jan. 3 – I went to school down to Bedlam & I helped to do the chores and Father chored around & drove down to Bedlam and at night Emma Orrie & I went over to North Argyle to mr Williams and it is a pretty cloudy day pretty cool cleared off at night some windy to.

Jan. 4 – I went to school down to Bedlam and I helped to do the chores and in the morning we loaded up a load of Oats & Father took them out to Fort Edward and he had on about 110 bu @ 48c a bu.  and it is nice pleasent day but pretty cold below zero at present getting colder to clear.

Jan. 5 – I went to school down to Bedlam and I helped to do the chores and father chored around and it is a pretty cloudy day and it snowed quite a lot most all afternoon about 3 inches and it is very cold to 8 below zero about 2 below all day.

Jan. 6 – I helped to do the chores and we all went down to Bedlam to Uncle Alex a visiting had a good time and at night Em Annie & I went over to the church to singing school and it is a very cold day some warmer at night and it snowed about 2 inches last night and snowed a little through the day but ditten mount to much though.

Jan. 7 – I helped to do the chores and we all went to church & we herd a sermon by Willard McEachron & His test was Hebrews the 12 chapter and the first clause of the 2 verse and it is some warmer pretty cloudy but cleared off colder.  snowed a little in the morning.

Jan. 8 - I went to school down to Bedlam and I helped to do the chores and father chored around and at night we all went over to the church to prayer meeting and it is a pretty cloudy day some cool to grand good sleighing now.

Jan. 9 – I went to school down to Bedlam and I helped to do the chores and in the forenoon Father chored around and in the afternoon Father & Emma went down to Argyle and at night Emma Annie & I went over to the church to prayer meeting and it is a pretty cloudy day some clear & cold to.

Jan. 10 – I helped to do the chores and I went to school down to Bedlam and Father chored around and it is a very cold day pretty cloudy to & windy drifted some places and at night I went down to Bedlam and two other Boys and myself put in two Horses and took girls up to a party above the White Church to Charley Todd’s.

 

 

4Jan. 11 – I went to school and I helped to do the chores and in the forenoon Father chored around and in the afternoon Father & Emma went over to the church to prayer meeting and about night a Tribe came here from above Glens Falls and they stayed all night they was 10 of them and it is a nice pleasent day some cloudy & very cold 7 below zero in the morning.

Jan. 12 – I went to school down to Bedlam and I helped to do the chores and the Company went away before noon and Father drove the sow with black spot over to Dixons to the boar and at night Emma Orrie & I went over to the church to prayer meeting and it is a nice pleasent day pretty clear and very cold 13 below zero in the morning the coldest yet.

Jan. 13 – Early in the morning Charles Williamson & I went down to Salem and took the cars for Troy and I got a Hat this diary & some other things to numerous to mention and we had a grand good time and we had to pay $2.48 for going on the cars and I got Home about 10 o’clock and the rest of our folks started for fort Edward but it snowed & blowed so that they ditten go any further than Alex Gillis or argyle and it snowed & blowed fearful up here so they said snowed about 4 inches very cold in the morning.

Jan. 14 – I helped to do the chores and Emma Orrie Annie and I went to church and we herd a sermon by Willard McEachron and his text was Luke the 16 chapter and the 31 verse and Father stayed at Home and kep house and at night Emma Annie & I went over to the church to prayer meeting and it is a nice pleasent day some cool and cloudy also some windy to drifted some last night.

Jan. 15 – I went to school down to Bedlam and I helped to do the chores and Father chored around cut a little wood at the door and it is a pretty cloudy day some cool but warmer than it Has been.

Jan. 16 – I went to school down to Bedlam and I helped to do the chores & father in the forenoon chored around & in the afternoon he went over to the church and they had a meeting to repair the church and it is a nice pleasent day quite clear & pleasent but pretty cold.  @ night I went down to Bedlam & 2 other boys (& myself) put in 2 Horses & 6 of us went over to argyle to the entertainment & had a good time & Orrie Emma went down with 2 chaps.

Jan. 17 – I went to school down to Bedlam and I helped to do the chores and Father went out to Fort Edward and he traded the old Family Sleigh for a pair of light bobbies not a new pair though and it snowed all afternoon part of the time very hard it snowed about 4 inches would think not very cold.

Jan. 18 – I helped to do the chores and I went to school down to Bedlam and in the forenoon father took the bobbies down to the shop to get the tongue fixed and in the afternoon he went up to Belcher for something and at night I went down to Bedlam &

H & I & 2 females took a ride and it is a nice pleasent day pretty clear and cool.

Jan. 19 – I helped to do the chores and I went to school down to Bedlam and Father chored around and at night Maggie Reid came up with us from school and it is a pretty cloudy day and it snowed some not very cold and at night I went down to Bedlam with Harve McNeil & up to Belcher to all around most.

 

 

 

Jan. 20 – I helped to do the chores and in the forenoon I chored around & Norman came up and in the afternoon we or Norman & I went down to Argyle and us Bedlam Boys had a match game of foot-Ball with the argyle Boys with a score. 16 to 6 with Argyle Boys as champions and in the morning all of the rest of the folks went out to the fort & got their pictures taken and it is a pretty cloudy day not very cold at night when he went or came up from argyle.

Jan. 21 – I helped to do the chores and we all went to church & maggie Reid went down Home with her uncle and Fred went Home and we herd a sermon by Willard McEachron and His text was Luke the 11 chapter & the 21 & 22 verses & it is a pretty cloudy it rained last night & we had a little thaw pretty sloppy some places but getting good deal colder.  pretty cool now.
Jan. 22 - I went to school down to Bedlam and I helped to do the chores and father chored around and drove down to Bedlam after some Groceries and it is a very cold raw day & very windy pretty clear but cold zero in the morning and colder at night.

Jan. 23 – I went to school down to Bedlam and I helped to do the chores and Father chored around & at night we all went down to Bedlam to Willard McEachron’s to a surprise party had a pretty good time and it is a nice pleasent day very cold though about 10 below zero in the morning cold air.

Jan. 24 – I went to school down to Bedlam and I helped to do the chores and Father chored around & at night Father went over to the church to a trustee meeting to see about fixing over the church & I went over to uncle Edd’s to a party or dance with a blonde and Emma went to with an nother fellow and I went in Company with a nother couple and we had a grand time got home before 4 o’clock & it is a nice pleasent day pretty cold but clear below zero in the morning snowed a little after dark.

Jan. 25 – I went to school and I helped to do the chores and Father chored around Wm. Heath & Eliza McMillen came over here and Eliza stayed here and it is a nice pleasent day pretty cold and it is nice sleighing and it is some cloudy to.

Jan. 26 – I helped to do the chores and I went to school down to Bedlam and Father took a load of oats out to ford Edward he had on 75 bu @ 48c a bu. and he brought back a small load of fence boards and at night I went down to bedlam and then I went down to Slab city with H Barkley and we had a grand good time and it is a nice pleasent day but very cold 6 blow zero here & 18 blow @ bedlam.

Jan. 27 – I helped to do the chores and in the forenoon we chored around I sawed a little wood and in the afternoon we chored around I took the bobbie down to the shop & got the King bolt fixed & then father went up to James Beatties and traded bobbies with Jim and got a pretty good pair and he got two bushels of the White Star potatoes and at night Orrie Annie & I went over to singing school @ the church and they was’nt any and we drove down to Bedlam & then came Home & it snowed a little part of the day pretty cloudy & warm.

Jan. 28 – I helped to do the chores and they was no meeting over to our church & so we ditten go to any other meeting so we all stayed @ home & kep house and it snowed most all forenoon pretty hard part of the time it thawed some snowed about 2 inches and it is a pretty cloudy day warm getting colder at night plenty of snow now.

Jan. 29 – I went to school down to Bedlam and I helped to do the chores and it is a nice pleasent day cloudyed over at night warmer thawing a very little and in the forenoon Father chored around and in the afternoon he went away some place.

Jan. 30 – I helped to do the chores and I went to school down to Bedlam and Father went down to Bedlam & from there to Salem and he got 2 barrels of flour and it is a nice pleasent day pretty clear & warmer it thawed some most in some time by the Sun.

Jan. 31 – I helped to do the chores and I went to school down to Bedlam and Father went out to fort Edward and Em went as far as argyle and stayed till father came back and it is a pretty cloudy day it rained quite a lot and it cleared of colder at night and father Orrie & Annie went over to the church to prayer meeting.

 

Thursday, February 1, 1883 -  I helped to do the chores and I went to school down to Bedlam and Father went down to Bedlam & got the colt shawd  and it is a pretty windy & cold day and at night I went down to Bedlam and H & I took a ride with 2 females had a big time to.

Feb. 2 – I went to school down to Bedlam and I helped to do the chores and Father took a small load of rye out to fort Edward about 35 bu and at night I went down to Argyle with George McEachron & it is a nice pleasent day pretty cold some windy cloudy to.

Feb. 3 – I helped to do the chores and Glenroy & Joe came over here & Uncle Edd & His woman & Cora & Uncle Daves folks all came here a visiting & in the afternoon norm & I went down to bedlam to play foot ball with the argyle Boys but they failed to come on a/c of rain I suppose and at night Emma Orrie & I went over to the church to singing school and it is a pretty cloudy day it snowed in the forenoon & rained in the afternoon pretty nasty day rain frooze as it came about.

Feb. 4 – I helped to do the chores and we all went to church & we herd a sermon by Willard McEachron and his text was John the 6 chapter & the 7 verse and it is a pretty cloudy day it rained & thawed a lot last night and it cleared off at night & colder & windy.

Feb. 5 – I helped to do the chores and I went down to Bedlam to school and I went down a foot in the morning father & I had a little dispute and so I thought that perhaps that it would be best for me to start away for awhile so I am boarding at uncle John Cs and at night I went up to the hall to a show had a good time and it is a nice pleasent day some cold & windy to in the afternoon Fred went out to fort Edward and he got the football for the boys around here it cost $5.50 cash.

Feb. 6 – I went to school and I am haveing a good time at present and us boys had a fine time kicking the foot ball and some of us are rather sore and at night Fred & I went up to our Home to get my good clothes and they was a small party up there and so we stayed awhile and it is a nice pleasent day pretty clear & cold in the morning good crust now.

Feb. 7 – I went to school and it is a nice pleasent day some cloudy though and it snowed about 3 or 4 inches last night and it snowed some in the morning and at night the Oyster supper came off over at the Academy & commercial Hall and we had a good time got in about 12 o’clock.

Feb. 8 – I went to school and I came home about 10 oclock pretty sick I was & I went to Bed till noon & in the afternoon I went to school again and when I came Home I went to Bed till night and I was pretty sick & at night they was a party over to George McEachrons & Fred went over but I could not go and it is a nice pleasent day some cold or pretty cold.

Feb. 9 – I went to school and I am some better in the morning & by night I felt pretty well and it is a nice pleasent day pretty clear and good sleighing pretty cold in the morning and Uncle John C is gaining he sits up quite a lot.

Feb. 10 – I stayed around Bedlam all day I helped Fred to saw some wood and in the afternoon we had a match game of foot Ball with the argyle boys & the score stood 19 to 3 in favor of the argyle Boys and at night I went up to Blanchards with a blonde & a few others to a candy pull had a good time and it is a nice pleasent day some cold pleasent.

Feb. 11 – I went to church with Fred we drove the colt and it was sacrament Sabbath and at night Fred & I went up to the methodist church they was preaching & prayer meeting and it snowed about 3 inches last night pretty cloudy day warmer to.

Feb. 12 – I went to school and I am having a good time and at night we boys played a game of foot Ball and at noon Fred & Charley went away & ditten get back till about 2 o’clock and it is a nice pleasent day pretty clear warm through the day but very cold at night.

Feb. 13 – I went to school and Father told orrie to tell me to come up Home at night with Her and we had a little talk & I finely concluded to come back for good and at night Emma Orrie & I went over to the church to a sociable and it is a nice pleasent day & pretty cold 15 below zero at Bedlam and good sleighing.

Feb. 14 – I went to school down to Bedlam and I helped to do the chores and in the morning Father gave me the colt as mine and father went out to fort Edward he drove l horse and it is a nice pleasent day some cloudy looks like more snow.

Feb. 15 - * I went to school down to bedlam and I helped to do the chores and Father chored around and when I came Home at night I took the Boar pig over to Henry Dixons for Sam Foster and at night John Armstrong & His wife came down and made a visit and it’s a nice pleasent day and it snowed about 2 inches last night.  at night I went down to Bedlam & from there up to Beveridges to the literary society and orrie & Emma went to a party over to Duncan McDougalls.

Feb. 16 – I went to school down to Bedlam and I helped to do the chores and Father chored around & at night Annie & I went down to Argyle to the Society to the Hall and Emma went down to (not with me) and it is a pretty cloudy day some soft thawing quite a lot.

Feb. 17 – I helped to do the chores & in the morning Father & I drawed 2 small loads of Hay from the Hay barn over the big barn & Alex Williamson & His Sisters came down here a visiting and at night Orrie Annie and I went over to singing school to the church and it is a pretty cloudy day very foggy in the morning but cleared off colder at night it thawed quite a lot.

Feb. 18 – I helped to do the chores and Father Orrie & Emma went down to North Argyle to school & they Herd a sermon by mr Henning & Em went Home with McGeoch’s folks and eliza Annie & I stayed at Home & kep House they was no meeting over to our church and the mister is sick.  it is a nice pleasent day some warm & icy.  at night I went down to Bedlam to the methodist church they was preaching & prayer meeting comeing Home I got in company with some young Ladies and Had a good time.

Feb. 19 – I went to school down to Bedlam and Annie begun agoing down with us to school & I helped to do the chores and Father cut some wood up back by Dunk McDougalls in the woods and when I came Home at night I sawed up the rest of the wood at the door and it is a nice pleasent day some cold very clear some squally at night.

Feb. 20 – I went to school and I helped to do the chores and father cut some wood up back in the woods and at night I went down to Bedlam and took a ride with a gal and it is a nice warm day some cool & cloudy at night it begun snowing it snowed about 2 inches.

Feb. 21 – I went to school down to Bedlam and I helped to do the chores and in the forenoon Father cut some wood up back in the woods and at night Orrie Annie & I went over to the sociable at the church and in the afternoon Father went down to Argyle and Emma came Home with Him and when they came Home they came over to the church to.  and it is a nice pleasent day some windy & colder at night.

Feb. 22 – I helped to do the chores and in the forenoon we drawed 3 small loads of Hay from the Hay barn over to the big barn and Glenroy & Joe came over & made a visit and it is a pretty cloudy day and some cool to.  and at night I went down to Slab City to an Exhibition and a nother fellow went we took females & Emma & orrie went out to fort Edward to a literary society to the Institute.

Feb. 23 – I went to school down to Bedlam and I helped to do the chores and father went out to fort Edward and it is a nice pleasent day but some windy & pretty cold getting colder all day at night it was quite cold.

Feb. 24 – I helped to do the chores & in the forenoon I ditten do much of any thing and father chored around some & Uncle Alex & Aunt Kate came up here a visiting & Mary Jane came up and in the afternoon I went down to argyle with H & Johnnie Barkley and the boys had a match game of foot Ball the Academy Boys & the argyle Boys H & I played with the Argyle Boys score argyle 12 & the Academy 10 and at night father orrie Emma & annie & I went over to singing school took 2 rigs it is a nice pleasent day some cool.

Feb. 25 – I helped to do the chores and they was no meeting over to our church on a/c of the minister Being sick and in the afternoon Emma Orrie & I went down to the methodist church to meeting and it is a pretty cloudy day warm and it snowed about 2 inches last night it rained some through the day & thawed quite a lot to.

Feb. 26 – I went to school and I helped to do the chores and father took a small grist down to Bedlam & brought it Home again and at night they was a temperance meeting down at the school House and we all went down and it is a nice pleasent day some cold to.

Feb. 27 – I helped to do the chores and I went down to bedlam to school they was no school in the afternoon the regents begun and father took a small grist down to Bedlam & brought it back again and it is a nice pleasent day some cloudy and at night us girls & I went down to mr Hennings and had a pretty good time.

Feb. 28 – I helped to do the chores and Orrie & I went down to Bedlam to the examin-ation and I had a good time and Father & Emma went out to fort Edward and they got my watch and it is a nice pleasent day some cloudy and it snowed about one inch last night.

 

Thursday, March 1, 1883 -  I went down to Bedlam to the regents and I helped to do the chores and the rest of our folks went over to Datis Strever’s funeral and at night Levi came up and it is a nice pleasent day pretty cold in the morning.

Mar. 2 – I went down to Bedlam to the regents examinations and I helped to do the chores and in the afternoon I took a ride with female and father drawed wood up to the house and about 4 o’clock James Gilchrist & Susan came up here & staid till in the Evening and at night Harry Beattie, Jennie & Her Cousin & Harold McNeil came down awhile and it is a nice pleasent day thawed a lot warm.

Mar. 3 – I helped to do the chores and in the forenoon father & I drawed wood up to the door & cut some wood up in the woods and in the afternoon I drawed wood up to the door and Father & Emma went to caucus @ argyle & Emma stayed down and at night Orrie & Annie & I went over to the church to Singing school and it is a nice pleasent day pretty cold in the morning but it thawed some through the day.

Mar. 4 – I helped to do the chores and we all went to church and we herd a sermon by Willard McEachron and His text was Job the 14 chapter and the first clause of the 14 verse and it is a nice pleasent day pretty cold thawing some clouding over now.

Mar. 5 – I went to school down to bedlam and I helped to do the chores and in the forenoon father cut some wood up in the woods and in the afternoon he drawed wood down to the house and it is a nice pleasent day pretty cool 5 below zero in the morning clear & grand good sleighing yet to.

Mar. 6 – I went to school down to Bedlam and I helped to do the chores and in the forenoon Father drawed wood up to the door and in the afternoon he went down to argyle to town meeting and Emma came Home with him & it is a pretty cloudy & cool day about 10 o’clock it begun to snow & it snowed the rest of the day harder and Harder it is about 4 inches or more.

Mar. 7 – I went to school and I helped to do the chores and father went down to Argyle and it is a very windy & cold (or some) day it drifted bad some places @ night Orrie Emma & I went over to the church to a sociable and I went a little further and it snowed about 6 inches all together and getting colder.

Mar. 8 – I went to school down to Bedlam and I helped to do the chores & Father drawed some wood up to the house and it is a pretty nice day but cold very cold in the morning about 8 below zero & clear good sleighing most to good at present.

Mar. 9 – I went to school down to Bedlam and I helped to do the chores and father took a small grist down to Bedlam & brought it back again and at night I went down to Bedlam & took a gal over to Argyle to the last Entertainment and had a good time and Emma went down to and it is a nice pleasent day some warmer cool at night.

Mar. 10 – I helped to do the chores and uncle Tom H & His wife mattie Willie Aunt Kate & Tommy Williamson & His wife & little girl came down here a visiting and it snowed most all day very Hard part of the day snowed about 6 inches a depth of snow, some warmer.

Mar. 11 – I helped to do the chores and Emma Orrie Father Annie & I went to church and we herd a sermon by Willard McEachron and His text was the -- chapter and the last clause of the -- verse and it was drifted so we could hardly get through I had to shovel some to get through & Eliza & Mary Jane staid at Home & kep House and it is a pretty windy & cloudy day not very cold drifted bad.

 

 

 

Mar. 12 – I went to school down to Bedlam and I helped to do the chores & Father chored around & shoveled out the road most down to uncle Daves and they was drifted bad we had to go through the field Drifted the worst this winter to Bedlam & annie stayed at Home and it is a nice pleasent day pretty cool & some windy & cloudy to still Drifting some.

Mar. 13 – I went to school and I helped to do the chores and father took a grist down to Bedlam & brought it home again and about night Willard or the minister came along and stoped & stayed till in the evening and at night I went down to Bedlam & took a short ride and it is a nice pleasent day pretty cool.

Mar. 14 – I went to school down to Bedlam and I helped to do the chores and & Henry Irwin came up here to chop wood & father choped & drawed wood up to the door and at night Emma Orrie & I went over to Willis Boyds to a party & had a good time and it is a nice pleasent day some cloudy & warmer thawed some.

Mar. 15 – I went to school down to Bedlam and I helped to do the chores and Hank Irwin chopped wood all day & Father cut & drawed wood and at night I went down to Bedlam & Charley Williamson & I went down south aways & had quite a time & it is a nice pleasent day thawed quite alot got pretty cold at night Charley came Home with me & at night our folks went up to Benjamin McMullens.

Mar. 16 – I went to school & I helped to do the chores & father went out to fort edward and at night I went down to Salem with Harry Beattie & Levi & we had a big time and emma went down with a fellow it was a show.  Uncle Toms cabin and it is a nice pleasent day pretty cold & some windy to.

Mar. 17 – I helped to do the chores and in the forenoon Henry Irwin & I choped wood up in the woods and father drawed 2 loads and in the afternoon Henry choped wood & father drawed and I went down to argyle to get some teeth filled and at night Orrie annie & I went over to singing school at the church and it is a pretty cloudy & cool day.

Mar. 18 – I helped to do the chores and we all went to church and we herd a sermon by mr Robinsere (?) and his text was 2 chronicles the 13 chapter and the 3, 4, & 5 verses and it is a nice pleasent day quite warm thawed a lot a little bare ground for the first not but a little around here.

Mar. 19 – I went to school down to Bedlam and I helped to do the chores and Father went over to glenroys and got a load of moveing he moved up to Belcher got most all moved 6 loads and when father came home he drawed a load of wood from the woods and it is a pretty cloudy & cold raw day.

Mar. 20 – I went to school and I helped to do the chores and it is a nice pleasent day pretty cold at night & Ben Donaldson His Wife & Daughter came up here a visiting & Father & Ben went up to the Auction at mrs McDougalls Ben was Auctioneer, or salesman, and at night I went up to glenroys to a party at Belcher and had a grand good dance & time & Emma & Orrie went with a fellow and I got around about 5 o’clock.  they was 34 tickets out a lot their.

Mar. 21 – I went to school down to Bedlam and I helped to do the chores and Father chored around & it is a very cold day for the time of year it thawed but very little for the time of year.  clear and cold and at night Eliza Annie Father & I went over to the sociable at the church and Emma & Orrie went down to south argyle to a party.

 

Mar. 22 – I went to school down to Bedlam and I helped to do the chores and Father & Wm. McWhorter went out to fort edward and it is a nice pleasent day some cool thawed some and at night I went down to Bedlam & from there on down to Flowers to a party had a good time and at night Willie  Mceachron and His folks came down and made a visit.

Mar. 23 – I went to school down to Bedlam and it is the last day of the Winter Term and I helped to do the chores and father took a small grist down to Bedlam and it is a nice pleasent day thawed quite a lot pretty good sleighing around here yet.

Mar. 24 – I helped to do the chores and Father Eliza Emma & Annie went over to Granfathers a visiting & eliza stayed over there & Orrie & I stayed at Home & George McEachron came along & stopped & staid all night we went down to Bedlam in the afternoon and at night we all went over to singing school.  & it is a nice pleasent day warmer thawed some.

Mar. 25 – I helped to do the chores and we all went to church & we herd a sermon by Willard McEachron & His text was 2 Corinthians the first 16 verses of the 8 chapter and George ditten come Home with us and it is a nice pleasent day pretty warm and clear thawed quite a lot sleighing is getting thin some places.

Mar. 26 – I helped to do the chores & in the forenoon father cut & drawed logs or l into the mill down @ bedlam and in the afternoon we drawed some wood up to the door from up back in the woods and @ night Orrie & I went down to Bedlam to Practice for the Exhibition and it is a pretty cloudy day but warm thawing fast.

Mar. 27 – I helped to do the chores and in the forenoon father & I went up to the woods and loaded on the other log & Father took it down to Bedlam to the saw mill and I chored around & in the afternoon Orrie Annie & I went down to Bedlam to Practice for the exhibition we staid till in the evening I went up to Prof. Speers for Supper had a good time & it is a pretty cloudy day snowed most all day more or less all of the time nasty sort of a day.

Mar. 28 – I helped to do the chores and in the forenoon I chored around & commenced sawing wood a little and Father went out to fort Edward and in the afternoon Orrie & I went down to Bedlam to Practice & ditten come Home till after the exhibition was out & our folks all came down and it is a nice pleasent day but very soft in under foot getting colder at night.

Mar. 29 – I helped to do the chores & in the forenoon I sawed some wood & Father split some and Father was snaking a small log up around the wood pile for a hack block & the Horse got away from Him & run into the Horse barn & smashed the cutter pretty badly.  In the afternoon we took the cutter down to Bedlam to get fixed and at night I went to a party over on the ridge to J. H. McNeils.  Had a good time & the rest of our folks went over to the church to the sociable and it is a nice pleasent day pretty warm thawed quite a lot.

Mar. 30 – I helped to do the chores and I sawed wood part of the day & split some & chored around & father did the same he cut some limbs and at night Father & Emma went down to Bedlam and it is a nice pleasent day some cool in the morning but thawed quite a lot.  & they took a wagon* down to Bedlam the first time since November or about that time.

 

*this means the road was getting bare and they could not use the horse-drawn sleigh.

Mar. 31 – I helped to do the chores and in the forenoon I sawed wood and father went down to Argyle & Eliza & Mary Jane came up with him and in the afternoon father cut some wood & I rode the colt down to Bedlam and got the cutter and at night Orrie & Annie & I went over to singing school and it was the last night I believe and it is a nice pleasent day cold at night very cool for the time of year.

 

Sunday, April 1, 1883 – I helped to do the chores and Orrie Father Annie & I went to church & we herd a sermon by Willard McEachron and His text was Matthew the 7 chapter and the 13 & 14 verses and Eliza & Emma staid at Home and kep House and it is a nice pleasent day thawed a lot and we took sleighs to church rather poor though.

Apr. 2 – I helped to do the chores and Sherman McNeil came to work & Him & I sawed split and cut wood most all day at the door and in the morning I took annie down to Bedlam to school she Boards to Mrs. Wilson’s & I begun to work by the month I get $25 a month & Sherm gets $21 a month and mrs. McDougall moved down to goose Island & Father helped her some & cut some wood & it is a nice pleasent day warm but cool in the morning thawed quite a lot sleighs still going.

Apr. 3 – I helped to do the chores and Sherman & I cut wood about all day at the door and Father helped some and Father & Orrie & Emma went down to a funeral Mrs Rogers & Her Sister two of them Dead down to Bedlam at the church and it is a nice pleasent day pretty warm some cool in the morning and they is some sleighs passing yet.  poor sleighing our folks took a wagon & the lambs commenced coming 2 came they was twins.

Apr. 4 – I helped to do the chores and Sherman & I sawed & cut wood about all day by the house and in the forenoon Father went down to North Argyle with Ben McMillen & he took two Collars to get Stuffed over and in the afternoon I drove down to Bedlam & took a saw to get filed & left it.  and it is a nice pleasent day very clear & pretty warm to thawed a lot some sleighs passing yet the last of sleighing I guess for a while & 3 more lambs came l pair of twins.

Apr. 5 – I helped to do the chores and in the forenoon Sherman & I sawed & cut wood at the door & Father helped some & we scent down to Bedlam after our saw & in the after- noon we all drawed Hay from the Hay barn 2 loads up on top of the Hill in the stack yard and 3 loads over to the big barn and it is a pretty cloudy day rained some warm the sleighing is whipped around here.  & I more lamb came.

Apr. 6 – I helped to do the chores and in the forenoon Sherman & I cut some some wood at the door & we sowed the Grass seed on the rye up in the big field and Father cut some wood and in the afternoon I was pretty sick for awhile and Sherman cut wood at the door & I cut some wood & father cut some to & he went down to Bedlam after Annie and it is a nice pleasent day thawed quite a lot rained some last night and 5 more lambs came.

 Apr. 7 – I helped to do the chores and in the forenoon Sherman & I cut some wood & sowed the grass seed up on top of the hill in the follow on the rye.  & father chored around.  & in the afternoon we we all drawed manure in the little field by the barn and father drawed it Sherm & I pitched it out of the stables & put it on the sleigh we took it most all out of the barn stable & calf stable 11 or 12 loads and at night Sherm & I went up to see our new neighbors mr. McWhorters and it is a pretty nasty day snowed quite a lot about 3 inches thawed quite a lot to.

Apr. 8 – I helped to do the chores & our folks all went to church but me & they herd a sermon by Willard McEachron & His text was Proberbs the (?) chapter and the (?) verse

and I staid at Home & Kep house and it is a nice pleasent day pretty warm thawed quite a lot and it is very muddy now and it is a very blackward spring a pile of snow on yet.  and 2 more lambs came.

Apr. 9 – I took Annie down to Bedlam to school in the morning & father Eliza & Emma went out to fort Edward and Eliza ditten come back with them and they took out some dried apples over a barrel and in the forenoon Sherm cut wood at the door & I helped what time I had and in the afternoon Sherman & I cut wood at the house & trimmed apple trees and it is a nice pleasent day very clear & quite warm pretty muddy now.

Apr. 10 – I helped to do the chores and in the forenoon father & Sherman drawed manure from the sheep stable & under the Horse-barn on the little field by the barn and I helped some & trimed some apple trees and in the afternoon father went over to Strever’s to the Auction & Sherman & I went over a while and when we came back & Sherm split wood & I trimed apple trees and it is a nice pleasent day pretty warm & clear thawed a lot snow is wasting pretty fast & 3 more lambs came.

Apr. 11 – I helped to do the chores and in the forenoon father & Sherman drawed manure from under the horse barn up on the side hill cross from the barn & Sherm cut some apple tree wood at the door & I trimed apple trees and in the afternoon father & Sherman drawed stone up on top of the Hill & I trimed out the wood of what was trimed from the trees & then I trimed apple trees and it is pretty cloudy day pretty warm though and 3 more lambs came.

Apr. 12 – I helped to do the chores and in the forenoon I trimed apple trees & Father & Sherman drawed stone up on top of the hill and in the afternoon I begun to plow for the first up in the big field and father & Sherman drawed the limbs up in the orchard & trimed out the rest of them and it is a nice warm day pretty cloudy at night it begun to rain and 3 more lambs came.

Apr. 13 – I helped to do the chores and in the forenoon I cut up some apple tree wood at the door & then finished trimming apple trees & Sherman cut some apple tree wood at the door & then begun to pile wood in the wood shed & father helped some & chored around & in the afternoon father chored around & went down to Bedlam after Annie & Sherm piled wood in the wood shed and I plowed up in the big field and it rained a lot last night & it is a nice pleasent day warm & clear l more lamb came but it was Dead.

Apr. 14 – I helped to do the chores and I plowed most of the day up in the big field and in the forenoon Father & Sherman sorted potatoes & drawed them over in the Horse barn cellar and in the afternoon Father went down to argyle & Sherman sowed the grass seed down on the side hill in the follow and then piled wood in the wood shed and it is a nice pleasent day pretty clear & warm the snow is getting pretty scattering now.

Apr. 15 – I helped to do the chores and Father Orrie Annie Sherman & I went to church and we herd a sermon by Willard McEachron and his text was Matthew the ll chapter and the ll verse & Emma staid at home and kept* house and it is a nice pleasent day pretty warm & clear.

Apr. 16 – I helped to do the chores and in the forenoon I plowed up in the big field & Sherman piled wood & sorted a load of potatoes & Father took Annie down to Bedlam to school and chored around & in the afternoon I finished plowing up in the big field & begun plowing in the field down above the road and Sherman piled wood & sorted potatoes & father laid some stonewall down along the road and chored around & it is a pretty cloudy day rained some at night Harve McNeil came along & Sherm & I went down to Barkleys lake with Him a fishing we got 5 pickeral.
Apr. 17 – I helped to do the chores and I plowed most all day down in the field above the road and in the forenoon Sherman sorted potatoes & piled wood and father chored around laid some wall & in the afternoon father & Sherman drawed stone down in the field above the road and @ night we all But Father went over to the sociable @ the church Had a good time and it is a nice pleasent day pretty clear & warm in the afternoon.

 Apr. 18 – I helped to do the chores and I plowed about all day down in the field above the road and Father sowed the piece up in the big field to Oats and Sherm dragged it in and in the afternoon father & Sherman picked & drawed some stone of from the field down the road and it is a nice pleasent day at noon spell we all planted the garden spot to potatoes.

Apr. 19 – I helped to do the chores and I plowed most all day and in the afternoon Father & Sherman drawed away the fence between the little field by the barn & side Hill 11 acres all in one field now.  & in the forenoon they drawed stone of from the same field up on the side Hill & it is a nice pleasent day pretty warm pretty windy & some cloudy.

Apr. 20 – I helped to do the chores and in the forenoon Sherman & I piled some wood & drawed 2 loads of hay from the Hay barn over to the big barn Father helped to draw l load & chored around & in the afternoon I plowed in the field down above the road and Sherman spread manure in the field by the barn & Father went down to Bedlam after Annie it rained quite a lot last night it snowed some in the morning & it cleared off in the afternoon and it is pretty cool day & the red & white cows had calves.

Apr. 21 – I helped to do the chores and Father sowed the down above the road to Oats & Sherman dragged it & in the forenoon I finished plowing down in that field and begun to plow up on top of the hill in the meadow & I plowed up there in the afternoon and it is a nice pleasent day pretty cloudy day clear & some cool frooze some last night.

Apr. 22 – I helped to do the chores and Orrie Emma & I went to church and we herd a sermon by mr Morris & his text was Ephesians the 3 chapter and the first 2 clauses of the 19 verse and Father & Annie staid at home & kept house & it is a nice pleasent day some cloudy & cool.

Apr. 23 – I helped to do the chores and I plowed all day up on top of the Hill in the meadow and in the forenoon Father & Sherman drawed stone up on the side Hill in the field by the barn and in the afternoon Sherman plowed up on top of the hill in the meadow & father chored around and it is a pretty cloudy and cool day.

Apr. 24 – I helped to do the chores and in the forenoon Sherman plowed up on top of the hill in the meadow and I took Annie down to school @ Bedlam and when I came back I went up & plowed with the other team and father chored around & in the afternoon Sherman & I finished plowing up in the meadow & at noon we all went up in the woods and got some maple trees & sat them out down along the road & it is a pretty cloudy day & cool snowed some & thawed as it came.

Apr. 25 – I helped to do the chores and father sowed the meadow up on top of the Hill to Oats & Sherman digged them in and I begin plowing up on top of the Hill in the field by the barn sod for potatoes & plowed most all day and it is a nice pleasent day pretty cloudy & cold though we had a little snow squall in the forenoon.

Apr. 26 – I helped to do the chores and I plowed all day up on top of the Hill & in the forenoon Father & Sherman drawed some stone of from the side hill in the same field & then father drawed some manure up there & Sherm sowed the rest of the grass-seed up on top of the Hill in the meadow & in the afternoon they drawed stone of from round Hill.  and it is a nice pleaseant day some warmer to.

Apr. 27 – I helped to do the chores and in the forenoon I finished plowing up on top of the Hill & Sherm dragged the piece up there and father mixed up some hen manure, ashes and fine dirt together and in the afternoon Father went around collecting in salary money and went down to Bedlam after annie and Sherman & I marked out the piece up on top of the hill one way and it is a nice pleasent day pretty cool some cloudy to.

Apr. 28 – I helped to do the chores & in the forenoon I marked out the piece up on top of the Hill the other way & begun to plant Potatoes & Father & Sherm picked stone down on round Hill and in the afternoon Sherman & I planted potatoes up on top of the hill and Father begun to plow down on round hill and it is a pretty cloudy day and cool to rained a very little @ night and it is pretty cool for the time of year and at night I was not very well.

Apr. 29 – I helped to do the chores and Father, Eliza, Emma, and Annie went to church & they herd a sermon by Willard McEachron & Orrie & I staid @ Home & kept House and it is a nice pleasent day some warmer but pretty cool yet I think.

Tuesday, May 1, 1883 – I helped to do the chores and I plowed most all day on round Hill and Sherman planted Potatoes all day up on top of the Hill & father chored around and he dragged some down on round Hill in the afternoon he is not very well and it is a nice pleasent day some cloudy & warmer.

May 2 – I helped to do the chores and I plowed most all day down on round Hill & Sherman in the forenoon finished planting potatoes up on top of the Hill & father chored around and in the afternoon Sherman dragged down on round Hill and father chored around & cut some Potatoes and it is a pretty nice day some cloudy & cool.  & the Cream mare had a colt but when we found it it was dead.

May 3 – I helped to do the chores and I plowed most all day down on round Hill and in the forenoon Sherman marked out down on round Hill and Father cut some Potatoes & chored around and in the afternoon Father & Sherman planted Potatoes down on round Hill for the first and it is a nice pleasent day pretty warm but got colder at night.

 

 

May 4 – I helped to do the chores and I plowed all day down on round Hill & Sherman planted Potatoes most all day down there & Father chored around and about night Father took the school teacher down to Bedlam and brought Annie up Home and it is a nice pleasent day some cloudy and cool to.

May 5 – I helped to do the chores and in the forenoon I plowed down on round Hill and Sherman planted Potatoes down there and father chored around and dug up some maple trees & in the afternoon it rained and we cut Potatoes & I went down to Argyle and got the Bay Horse shawd and father & Sherman sat out some trees and chored around and it is a pretty cloudy day rained a lot.

May 6 – I helped to do the chores and we all went to church But Eliza she staid at Home and Kept House and we herd a sermon by Willard McEachron & His text was Luke the 1 chapter and the 45 verse and it is a nice pleasent day some cloudy some warmer after the rain it rained quite a lot last night.

May 7 – I helped to do the chores and in the forenoon I finished plowing down on round Hill and Sherman dragged some down there & chored around & Father took Annie down to Bedlam and brought the school teacher up & chored around & in the afternoon I marked out down on round Hill & Sherman finished dragging down there and marked out some and father chored around and it is a nice pleasent day some cloudy & warm to.

May 8 – I helped to do the chores and in the forenoon Sherman & I marked the round Hill out one way & father drawed some manure up on the side Hill and chored around & in the afternoon Sherman & I planted Potatoes and marked out some the other way down on round Hill and father took a load of Potatoes down to Salem he had on 44 bu @ 65 cts. a bu and it is a nice pleasent day some warmer.  Orrie & Emma went over to Granfathers.

May 9 -  I helped to do the chores and in the forenoon Sherman marked out the rest of the round Hill the other way & I planted Potatoes down there & Father drawed some manure up on the side Hill and in the afternoon Sherman & I planted Potatoes down on round Hill & Father took a load of Potatoes down to Salem @ 65 cts had on 48 bu and he brought Home a Bull @ $11 and it is a pretty cloudy day some warm & cool in the morning.

May 10 – I helped to do the chores and Sherman & I planted Potatoes all day down on round Hill & Father drawed manure most all day up on the side Hill in the field by the barn and Orrie & Emma came Home and it is a nice pleasent day pretty warm & clear.

May 11 – I helped to do the chores and in the forenoon father & I drawed some Hay & manure.  Hay from Hay barn & manure up on side Hill & Sherman planted some Potatoes down on round Hill & cut some and it rained some to & in the afternoon Sherm planted Potatoes down on round Hill & I begun to plow in the field back of the barn for corn & father drawed some manure and took the school teacher down to Bedlam & brought Annie Home and it is a pretty cloudy day cleared off some warmer at night.
May 12 – I helped to do the chores and I plowed most all day in the field back of the barn and Sherm planted Potatoes most all day down on round Hill & he got done wer all done planting Potatoes now for a while & in the forenoon Father drawed some manure & in the afternoon father Emma & Annie went to church & they herd a sermon by mr Shortt and it is a nice pleasent day some cloudy & cool at night I took Eliza most over to Wm. Heath’s and they went down to Argyle.

 

May 13 – I helped to do the chores & Father Emma Orrie & I went to church & we herd a sermon by Willard McEachron and his text was in Luke and annie staid @ Home and Kept House and it is a nice pleasent day pretty cloudy & some cool to.
May 14 – I helped to do the chores and I plowed most all day in the field by the barn and in the forenoon Sherman gathered & burned the brush in the Orchard and Father took annie down to Bedlam & brought up the school teacher and then he drawed some manure up in the Orchard around the trees & in the afternoon he done the same & Sherman spred manure where I plowed and it is a nice pleasent day some cloudy & warm @ night it rained.

May 15 – I helped to do the chores and in the forenoon I plowed some up on the side Hill by the barn & Sherman shelled some corn & chored around I did to & Father chored around and in the afternoon I plowed in the Same field & Sherm spred the rest of the manure up on the side Hill & then shelled corn & father drawed manure up in the orchard around the trees and it is a pretty cloudy day it rained most all night & part of the forenoon.

May 16 – I helped to do the chores and I plowed most all day up on the side Hill in the field by the barn and in the forenoon Father & Sherman made fence down between the swail and round Hill and in the afternoon Sherman dragged in the field by the barn & father chored around and at noon we all went over to Miss Kinnys funeral and it is a nice pleasent day pretty cool to.

May 17 – I helped to do the chores and in the forenoon I finished Plowing up on the side Hill in the field by the Barn & begun marking it out & Sherman dragged the rest of it and father chored around in the afternoon Sherm & I marked out in the same field and Father chored around and it is a nice pleasent day pretty warm.

May 18 -  I helped to do the chores and Sherman Planted corn all day in the field by the barn & I marked it out the other way & then I planted the rest of the day & father planted a few Potatoes down in the corner & then he chored around and burned some old stumps down in the little follow by Daves and at night the girls took the school teacher down to Bedlam and Brought Annie up Home and it is a nice warm & pleasent day warmer.

May 19 – I helped to do the chores and Father went out to the fort and Sherman & I planted corn most all day in the field by the barn & we got done and at night Sherm & I went down to Argyle had some fun and it is a nice pleasent day pretty warm to.

May 20 – I helped to do the chores and we all went to church and we herd a sermon by Willard McEachron and his text was Isiaiah the 9 chapter and the 10 verse and in the afternoon they was a meeting down to the school house to organize a Sabbath school and it is a nice warm day pretty cloudy day & quite warm.

May 21 – I helped to do the chores and in the forenoon I took annie down to Bedlam and helped to clean out the cellar & Father Sherman drawed a few stone down in the little follow & cleaned out the cellar & choired around and in the afternoon Father plowed some & I too down on the little follow & Sherman drawed stone off from it I helped him some & he dragged some to and it is a pretty cloudy day rained some to colder.

May 22 – I helped to do the chores and in the forenoon I finished Plowing down in the little follow and dragged it and Father & Sherman drawed rails and made fence down there and in the afternoon Sherman & I washed out the bags and finished making the fence down in the little follow and Father chored around and it is a nice day pretty cloudy and rained quite a lot.

May 23 – I helped to do the chores and in the forenoon Sherman & I put up the crow-twine on the corn and planted the corn down in the little follow and father marked it out and choired around & in the afternoon Sherman & I drawed stone off from the Orchard and Father went over to the church to see about something and it rained some it is a pretty cloudy day some warmer too.  and we are all done Planting for awhile.

May 24 – I helped to do the chores and in the forenoon Sherman & I drawed stone in the Orchard & father chored around & in the afternoon we all fixed fence up back in the field by the woods till supper time & then Sherm & I picked stone in the Orchard and it is a nice pleasent day some cloudy & cool.

May 25 – I helped to do the chores and in the forenoon Sherman & I picked stone up in the Orchard, Father helped some & chored around and in the afternoon Father & Sherman begun to lay stone wall over in the big field and fixed fence down along the ltitle follow till supper time & then I took the school teacher down to Bedlam Orrie & Emma went to & we brought Annie home and it is a nice pleasent day some warmer.

May 26 – I helped to do the chores and in the forenoon father Emma & Orrie went out to Ft. Edward & Sherman & I laid stone wall over in the big field and in the afternoon we washed the sheep down @ McAuley’s 37 in all father reached them in to us.  and after supper we played Ball down in the little meadow & some other boys and it is a nice pleasent day pretty warm & clear.

May 27 – I helped to do the chores & they was no meeting over to our church & Emma Orrie & I went down to Bedlam at Mr Wiley’s church & we herd a sermon by Him & his text was the 119 pslam & the 27 verse and Father & annie stayed at home & Kept house and we all went down to Sabbath school at Goose Island schoolhouse and it is a nice pleasent day some cloudy & warm.

May 28 – I helped to do the chores and Father took a load of Grain out to the fort 12 bu of rye about & 80 of Oats and brought home some wall strips and Sherman layed stonewall most all day over in the big field & in the forenoon I took annie down to Bedlam & brought the school teacher up here and chored around it rained to some & in the afternoon I laid stonewall with Sherm & it is a nice pleasent day some warm & cloudy.

May 29 – I helped to do the chores and in the forenoon it rained a lot and Sherm & I made penals of board fence and chored around & Father chored around & in the afternoon Sherman & I layed stone wall over in the big field and Father chored around and went down to Wm. McEachrons & got a load of fence boards and @ night Emma & Orrie took the school marm down to Bedlam & brought Annie up home and it is a pretty cloudy day rained a lot cleared off in the afternoon some cooler.

May 30 – I helped to do the chores and Sherman & I went  out to to fort Edward & took the cars & went up to Glens falls & at night we went up to the Institute to a contest we had a good time & we got home about 2 oclock next morning in the forenoon father fixed fence & Emma went to someplace & in the afternoon the rest of our folks went down to Argyle and it is a nice pleasent day some cool and cloudy at night it rained.

May 31 – I helped to do the chores and in the forenoon I took Annie down to Bedlam & brought up the teacher & then I helped father & Sherman lay over the fence at the bottom of the Orchard and in the afternoon Sherm & I layed stone wall over in the big field & father drawed some stone & layed them in the same place to finish or top out the wall & it is a nice warm day some cloudy & it rained in the morning some.

Friday, June 1, 1883 – I helped to do the chores and we all worked on the road & in the morning Sherman hoed the Potatoes in the garden & at night or after Supper I went down after annie @ bedlam and father & Sherman fixed some fence down along the lower follow and it is a nice pleasent day pretty warm apple trees are in full Blossom @ the present writing.

June 2 – I helped to do the chores and in the forenoon we all worked on the road & in the afternoon father worked on the road & at night he went up to Duncan McDougalls & got 8 pigs @ $l8.  & Sherm & I went down to north argyle & played the north argyle Boys a game of ball score N.A. 6 to G.I. 23 runs.  beat once.  after the game we went down to Argyle & Orrie went down to mr Hennings with us & it is a nice pleasent day pretty warm & clear.

June 3 – I helped to do the chores & Ema Orrie & I went down to North Argyle to church & we herd a sermon by mr Henning & this text was in first John & Father & Annie staid at home & kept house & at night we all went down to Sabbath school at the school House but father he ditten go & it is a nice pleasent day pretty warm.

June 4 – I helped to do the chores and in the forenoon father took Annie down to Bedlam @ school & brought up the school teacher & then he plowed the garden & Sherm & I chored around & laid some stonewall over in the big field & in the afternoon we layed stone wall over in the big field & father made the garden & fixed some fence & it is a nice pleasent day some cloudy rained some in the morning or forenoon.

June 5 – I helped to do the chores and Sherman & I layed stonewall most all day over in the big field & father drawed some stone & layed them on the wall we did some to and it is a nice pleasent day pretty warm some cloudy.

June 6 – I helped to do the chores & we all layed stonewall & drawed stone & layed them on the wall & we got done supper time & then Sherman & I went a fishing down to Barkley’s lake but ditten have any luck & it is a nice pleasant day pretty hot & it rained a little.  Shower some cloudy.

June 7 – I helped to do the chores & Sherman & I begun hoeing Potatoes up on top of the hill for the first we hoed most of the day & Duncan & levi McDougall sheared our sheep 38 in number & at noon we all dipped the lambs in tobacco juice & at night Sherm, Norm levi & I went over to the mud lake but ditten get no fish & it is a pretty cloudy day pretty warm & rained a little to.

June 8 – I helped to do the chores and Sherman & I hoed Potatoes most all day up on top of the hill & we got done up there and Father drawed some rails & fixed some fence & in the afternoon he went over to the white church & then he went down to Bedlam after Annie & at night Sherm & I went down to Bedlam to McGi--*s concert had a good time Emma & Orrie went another way & it is a nice pleasent day pretty hot & clear to.

June 9 – I helped to do the chores & father took some Potatoes & Oats out to fort Edward Potatoes @50c & Oats @58 c & Annie went to & they brought home a barrel of flour & some plaster & in the forenoon Sherman & I rode down to Wm. McEachron’s & cut a chestnut tree for posts & sawed it up & in the afternoon we fixed fence over back around the big field & it is a nice pleasent day pretty hot & clear to.

June 10 – I helped to do the chores & Emma Orrie & I went down to Argyle U. P. church & we herd a sermon by Mr Cain & His text was pslams 84 & the 5 verse & Father & Annie stayed at Home and Kept House.  & at night we all but father went down to Sabbath school at the school  house & it is a nice pleasent day some cloudy we had a little shower.

June 11 – I helped to do the chores & in the forenoon Sherm & I hoed potatoes down on round Hill just begun & father took Annie down to Bedlam @ school & then he plastered some corn back of the barn & in the afternoon we all went down to Wm. McEachron’s woods & split out most of the Posts & brought up a load & then Sherm & I hoed Potatoes down on round Hill & it was very hot too after the shower about noon we had a heavy thunder shower rained a lot. cooler at night.

June 12 – I helped to do the chores & Sherman & I hoed Potatoes all day down on round Hill & in the forenoon father drawed up posts from Wm. McEachrons woods & in the afternoon he plastered some corn & got the rest of the tree at McEachron’s and it is a nice pleasent day some cloudy & pretty warm.

June 13 – I helped to do the chores and in the forenoon Sherman & I hoed Potatoes down on round Hill and & father plastered some corn & in the afternoon it rained a lot and we all moved over the hay up in the horse barn & then we chored around father & Sherman fixed some fence up the road and it is a pretty cloudy day rained a lot cleared off cooler at night & at night Sherman & I went down to Argyle to a festival had a good time Ema*

June 14 – I helped to do the chores & Sherman & I Hoed Potatoes all day down on round Hill & in the forenoon father plastered some corn & chored around or drove over to the church and in the afternoon he commenced Hoeing Corn down in the little follow and it is a nice pleasent day some cooler & windy.

June 15 – I helped to do the chores & Sherman & I hoed Potatoes all day down on round Hill and Father finished hoeing the corn down in the little follow & begun to cultivate some of the corn out one way by the barn & at night father took the school marm down to Bedlam and brought Annie up Home and it is a nice pleasent day some warm to.  quite cool in the morning & windy to.

June 16 – I helped to do the chores and Sherman & I hoed Potatoes most all day down on round Hill & at noon we all dipped the lambs in tobacco juice & in the forenoon father cultived at the corn one way by the barn and in the afternoon he took the cream mare over to John Gilchrists & Orrie went as far as Argyle & it is a nice pleasent day quite warm.

June 17 – I helped to do the chores and Sherman & I went up to Belcher to the Methodist meeting & we herd a sermon by Mr Brown & His text was John 14 chapter & the 2 verse & the rest of the folks stayed at home & kept house and at night we all but father went down to the school House to Sabbath school and it is a nice pleasent day some cloudy & warm.

June 18 – I helped to do the chores and in the forenoon Sherm & I Hoed Potatoes down on round Hill and Father took annie down to Bedlam at school & Brought up the school teacher & cultivated and in the afternoon we all went down on round Hill to Hoe Potatoes but ditten Hoe long it came on rain. & after supper we all begun to Hoe corn back of the barn & it is a nice warm day pretty cloudy.

June 19 – I helped to do the chores and in the forenoon we all washed & greased at the Harness & in the afternoon father greased at the Harness I helped some & Sherman fixed some fence & after supper we all Hoed corn back of the barn I ditten Hoe long & then I took the school teacher & Emma down to Bedlam to some meeting & Brought up Mary Wilson & it is a pretty cloudy day rained quite a lot.

June 20 – I helped to do the chores & in the forenoon we all Hoed corn back of the barn & in the afternoon Sherm & I hoed Potatoes down on round Hill & we got done & father went down to Bedlam & then came Home up by the church & it is a nice pleasent day pretty warm & in the morning father took a calf up to Harve Reynolds weight 172 pounds (a 6c a lb.)

June 21 – I helped to do the chores & in the morning we all Hilled the Potatoes in the garden & then we all Hoed corn in the field back of the barn at night I went up to Hiram Reynolds & got a corn Planter & it is a nice pleasent day pretty warm & clear.

June 22 – I helped to do the chores & in the forenoon we all Hoed corn up on the side Hill back of the barn & in the afternoon father Hoed corn in the same place & I planted some beans in with the corn up on the side-Hill and Sherman shoveled potatoes up on top of the Hill at night we all but father went down to Bedlam to the school Festival & Brought Annie Home & we had a good time and it is a nice pleasent day pretty warm & some cloudy to.

June 23 – I helped to do the chores and in the forenoon we all Hilled Potatoes up on top of the Hill and father finished Hoeing corn up on the side Hill & in the afternoon father shoveled out Potatoes down on round Hill till supper time & then Sherm did & I Hilled Potatoes up on top of the Hill & they Helped some & it is a nice pleasent day pretty warm & clear at night I went over to granfathers & stayed all night.

June 24 – I helped to do the chores and granfather & I went down to Argyle to church & we herd a sermon by Mr Cain and His text was the 140 pslam & the 8 verse & I came over to Sabbath school & then on up Home & our folks all stayed at Home & kept House except going down to Sabbath school.  & it is a nice pleasent day very warm & clear.

June 25 – I helped to do the chores and in the forenoon father shoveled out Potatoes one way down on round Hill & Sherman Hilled Potatoes up on top of the Hill & in the afternoon father Hilled Potatoes up on top of the Hill & Sherman shoveled out Potatoes one way down on round Hill and I Hilled Potatoes all day up on top of the Hill & it is a nice pleasent day pretty warm & clear.

June 26 – I helped to do the chores and in the forenoon I finished Hilling Potatoes up on top of the Hill & father Helped to & Sherman finished shoveling out one way down on round Hill & then we all Hoed the corn down in the little follow & in the afternoon Sherman & I put on Paris green on the potatoes up on top of the Hill with water & father helped some & then Sherman & I begun to Hill Potatoes down on round Hill & at night we went up to Belcher to a festival had a good time & it is a nice warm day pretty cloudy though & windy.

June 27 – I helped to do the chores & we all Hilled Potatoes down on round Hill all day and it is a nice pleasent day but a little cloudy and at night we all but father went down to Bedlam to a strawberry festival at the Parsonage.

June 28 – I helped to do the chores and we all Hill Potatoes all day down on round Hill and at night father & Sherman had a little trouble & the young lad went Home & ditten come back a good thing to.  and it is a nice pleasent day pretty warm & clear.

June 29 – I helped to do the chores and father & I Hilled Potatoes all day down on round Hill and it is a pretty nice day pretty clear & warm to and at night Orrie & Ema & I went down to mr Hennings to a Party @ north Argyle and had a good time.

June 30 – I helped to do the chores & father & I Hilled Potatoes all day down on round Hill about after supper father & Orrie went down to Argyle & at night I went up to Glenroys’s and stayed all night @ Belcher.  And it is a pretty cloudy & cool day.

 

Sunday, July 1, 1883 – I helped to do the chores and I went to church up to Belcher from glenroys and I came down Home & we all went to sunday school But father and in the afternoon father Emma & Annie went down to Bedlam to church & herd a sermon by the same minister that I did Mr brown & Orrie stayed at Home & Kept House and it is a nice pleasant day some cool.

July 2 – I helped to do the chores & father & I Hilled Potatoes most all day down on round Hill @ noon we had a little thunder Shower & it is a pretty warm & some cloudy day we had some Heavy thunder we had Willard the minister Uncle Alex for supper.

July 3 – I helped to do the chores & in the forenoon father finished Hilling Potatoes down on round Hill & carried some water up in the field to me & in the afternoon he cultivated or plowed out one way in the corn back of the barn & I put on Poison on the Potatoes all day or to supper time down on round Hill and then after supper time I begun to Hoe the corn the second time back of the barn & it is a nice pleasent day pretty warm at night we had a thunder shower.

July 4 – I went out to fort Edward in the morning & Levi & Moses Graham rode out with & 4 other Boys & us went from the fort down to Troy on the cars & from there to Albany & we had a grand good time and when we came back up to the fort & we stayed awhile & seen the fire works we got Home about 1 o’clock & in the afternoon our folks went down to Bedlam to Uncle Alex’s a visiting & it is a very warm day had a thunder shower about 4 o’clock.

July 5 – I helped to do the chores and in the forenoon I Hoed corn back of the barn & father cultivated & hoed some and in the afternoon father hoed corn in the same place & I put on Poison on the Potatoes down on round Hill & it is a nice pleasent day very warm though.

July 6 – I helped to do the chores & in the morning I finished putting on Poison on the Potatoes down on round Hill for once and mr McWhorter & His Boy Johnney helped us to Hill corn in the field back of the barn & in the afternoon Johnney & I went up to Willie McEachron’s & Helped Him to Hill Potatoes and father & mr McWhorter Hoed corn up on the side Hill & it is a nice pleasent day pretty warm and some windy not much and after supper the girls went down to Argyle.*

July 9 – I helped to do the chores & I mowed most all day over in the big meadow with the Machine & father mowed around the fence & mowed the swail by Hand & after dinner He went over to the church & from there to Bedlam & then Home and it is a pretty cloudy day some clear & cool to.

July 10 – I helped to do the chores and in the forenoon I mowed with the machine over in the big meadow and father mowed some down in the swail in the field down above the road & in the afternoon I raked Hay over in the big meadow and father cocked up till supper time & then he cocked & raked the Hay that He mowed down in the swail & I finished mowing over in the big meadow and it is a nice pleasent day pretty warm & clear to.

July 11 – I helped to do the chores & in the forenoon I mowed with the machine down in the meadow & father mowed around the fence and finished mowing down in the swail above the road, and in the afternoon we drawed Hay in the Hay barn from the big meadow 7 loads & I raked some to & it is a nice pleasent day pretty warm & good Hay day to.

July 12 – I helped to do the chores and in the forenoon father and I finished drawing the Hay over in the big meadow in the Hay barn 5 loads & I raked some and in the afternoon I raked some down in the meadow & we got one load on & it came on rain or a Thunder shower and then we chored around & after supper father took the cream mare over to John Gilchrists to the Horse and I mixed some paris Green and it is a pretty warm day rained a lot some cloudy.

July 13 – I helped to do the chores and in the forenoon I mowed the rest down in the meadow except the swail & father went up in the little meadow & mowed part of it by Hand and in the afternoon we drawed 6 loads of Hay from down in the meadow I raked the most of it Annie* raked some and it is a pretty cloudy & warm day cleared of nice at night.

July 14 – I helped to do the chores and in the forenoon father mowed some around the fence down in the meadow & in the field front of the House & then went up in the little meadow & mowed some and I mowed with the machine in the field front of the House and in the afternoon we drawed 5 loads of Hay from down in the meadow and I raked some & the girls* raked most of it we left about l load & then father went up in the little meadow & raked & cocked it & I raked the Hay in the field front of the House & at night I went down to Bedlam and it is a nice pleasent day good Hay day.

July 15 – I helped to do the chores and in the afternoon we all went up to Belcher to church & we herd a sermon by Willard McEachron & His text was in Hebrews and Levi went up with us & when we came back we all But Father went down to the school House @ Sabbath school and it is a nice pleasent day pretty warm & some cloudy at night it begun to rain.

July 16 – I helped to do the chores & in the forenoon I finished mowing in the field front of the House and father finished mowing up in the little meadow and then turned over some Hay in the field front of the House & in the afternoon we drawed 4 loads of Hay in 3 from the field front of the House & l from up in the little meadow and it is a nice pleasent day pretty warm.

July 17 – I helped to do the chores and in the forenoon I mowed with the Machine down in the little meadow and Father mowed some by Hand & we got done and in the afternoon we drawed in 2 loads of Hay l from down in the meadow & l from the field front of the House & then it came on rain & after supper father took about 12 bu of corn down to Bedlam @ 80c a bu & at night I went down to Bedlam & it is a pretty warm day some cloudy & it rained a lot.

July 18 – I helped to do the chores & in the forenoon I cradled rye up in the big field for the first and father turned over some Hay in the field front of the House & he is about sick & in the afternoon we drawed in 4 loads of Hay 2 from the field front of the House and 2 from down in the little meadow and it is a nice pleasent day some cool to.

July 19 – I helped to do the chores and in the forenoon I cradled rye up in the big field and father bound rye up there to and in the afternoon we drawed 4 loads of Hay 3 from down in the little meadow & l from up in the little meadow & after supper I cut rye up in the big field & Father stouped (?) up rye up there and it is a nice pleasent day some cool & cloudy to.

July 20 – I helped to do the chores and in the forenoon I cradled rye up in the big field and father raked & bound up there and in the afternoon we drawed in l load of Hay from the swail down in the Oat field and then I finished cradleing rye up in the big field & begun a little down in the follow & Father bound rye up in the big field at night I went up to Glenroy’s & got 2 cradles and it is a nice pleasent day cool nights now.,

July 21 – I helped to do the chores & in the forenoon father finished binding rye up in the big field 90 Dozens & cradled rye all day down in the follow and in the afternoon Uncle Dave Helped me to cut & father bound rye down in the same place and @ night I went down to Bedlam & it is a nice pleasent day some warm & cloudy to.  in the afternoon Orrie & Annie went down to Bedlam.

July 22 – I helped to do the chores and I went to church down to Argyle with John Barkley & we herd a sermon by Mr Cain & His text was 2 Samuel the 18 chapter & the 9 verse and our folks staid at Home & Kept House & it is a pretty warm day some cloudy.  at night we all but Father went down to sabbath school @ the school house.

July 23 – I helped to do the chores & I cradled rye up in the follow & Father raked & bound & sat up rye all day up in the same place and in the afternoon Uncle Dave came up & Helped me to cradle Uncle Alex & Norm came up & Helped Father to rake & bind we got a big start on the field most cut & it is a nice pleasent day some warm & cloudy to.

July 24 – I helped to do the chores & in the forenoon I finished cradleing rye & then I helped father to finish binding the rye up in the follow & in the afternoon we drawed rye from the follow and it is a nice pleasent day pretty warm & clear & Josephine came down Here a visiting & @ night Ema & I took her up Home.

 

 

 

July 25 – I helped to do the chores and in the forenoon we chored around & the schaghticoke fellows got 12 lambs & then we drawed in rye from the follow & in the afternoon I mowed the swail down in the meadow I broke our machine & then went up & got Mr McWhorter’s Machine & finished mowing it and we drawed in 3 loads of rye from the follow & @ night I went down to Bedlam and it is a nice pleasent day pretty warm & clear.

July 26 – I helped to do the chores and in the forenoon Father & Norman drawed the rest of the rye from the follow & begun drawing rye from up in the big field & I helped to onload & I begun cradleing Oats down in the field above the road up in the corner and in the afternoon we all drawed the Hay down in the swail 4 loads & 2 loads of rye from the big field & I cut a few Oats and it is a nice pleasent day pretty warm & clear.

July 27 – I helped to do the chores and I cradled Oats most all day up in the big field and in the forenoon Father helped me to cut Oats most of the time we finished cutting the Oats in the corner & then begun cradleing Oats up in the big field & Norman raked the rye tailings up in the follow & in the afternoon Father & Norman finished drawing in rye & they drawed in the tailings from the follow 2 loads & then thrashed till night & it is a nice day some cloudy & windy to.

July 28 – I helped to do the chores and in the forenoon I finished cradleing Oats up in the big field & raked the rye stubble up there to & Father fixed some fence around the follow & thrashed rye tailings & in the afternoon I thrashed the rest of the rye tailings that was drawed in & father Emma & Annie went out to Ft. Edward & father got me a pair of Boots @ $3 and it is a nice cool day some warm pretty cloudy & rained quite a lot.

July 29 – I helped to do the chores and Father Emma & Orrie went down to Bedlam to church & they herd a sermon by Mr Wiley and Annie & I stayed @ Home & Kept House and we all but Father went down to the school House to sabbath school and it is a pretty cloudy day & some cooler.

July 30 – I helped to do the chores and in the forenoon I cradled Oats down in the field above the road & father Helped some & then he drove over to the church & Uncle Alex came up to Help us to draw in & in the afternoon we all drawed in 3 loads of Oats 2 from the the corner down the road & l from the big field & then it came on a little rain & then Father & I cut Oats in the field above the road & it is a pretty cloudy day some clear & cool to.

July 31 – I helped to do the chores & in the forenoon Father & I cradled Oats down in the field above the road & drawed in the rye tailings from the big field & in the Uncle Dave & I finished cutting the Oats in the same place & then it came on rain & after supper Father & I thrashed tailings of rye & at night Ema Annie & I went down to Bedlam and it is a pretty cloudy & cool day rained quite a lot to.

 

Wednesday, August 1, 1883 – I helped to do the chores and in the forenoon we threshed the rest of the rye tailings & then we went up on top of the Hill in the meadow & begun cradleing Oats & in the afternoon we cut Oats up in the same place the most of the time & it is a pretty cloudy day rained some & some cool to.

Aug. 2 – I helped to do the chores and in the forenoon we cradled Oats up in the meadow on top of the Hill till it came on rain & in the afternoon father Orrie & Annie went over to Granfathers a visiting & I chored around cut some weeds & cut some Oats up on the Hill & it is a pretty cloudy day rained a lot to.

 

Aug. 3 – I helped to do the chores and in the forenoon father & I finished cutting Oats up on top of the Hill we are all done cradleing now & then we went over in the big field & went @ turning Oats & in the afternoon we drawed in Oats from up there 4 loads and it is a pretty cloudy, windy & cool day.  & at night I drove down to Bedlam to See Uncle Alexander.

Aug. 4 – I helped to do the chores and uncle Alexander & us drawed in Oats most all day we finished drawing in from the big field & begun drawing in from the field down above the road 10 loads 2 from first place & 8 from last place and at night I went down to argyle & got the mail & it is a nice cool day & cloudy & windy to quite cool for time of year.

Aug. 5 – I helped to do the chores and Father Emma & Annie went down to Argyle @ church & they Herd a sermon by mr. Cain and Orrie & I stayed @ Home and Kept House and we all but father went down to the school House @ sabbath-school and @ night I went up to Belcher to prayer meeting with Hamp Beattie & Levi and it is a pretty cloudy & cool day & we had a shower rained quite a lot.

Aug. 6 – I helped to do the chores and we drawed Oats most all day from up on top of the Hill in the meadow 7 loads & John McWhorter helped to rake & in the morning I raked the Oat stubble up in the big field and it is a nice pleasent day pretty clear some cool.

Aug. 7 – I helped to do the chores and in the forenoon I raked some of the Oat stubble up on top of the Hill & then John McWhorter & us drawed in the rest of the Oats up there 3 loads & in the afternoon we all drawed in Oats from the field above the Captains

4 loads & l load from the big field & what I raked up on the Hill and it is a nice pleasent day some warmer at night George Shepard came up to our House to See us & He, Ema & I went over to Grandfathers & then down to North Argyle.

Aug. 8 – I helped to do the chores and in the morning I raked the rest of the Oat stubble up on top of the Hill and then I raked the Oat stubble down in the field above the road & father chored around & then we drawed in what I raked & l more load down the road making 2 loads in all we are all done Harvesting now & John McWhorter Helped us and in the afternoon I went over to Granfathers to Help Him to cut His Oats & get them up Joe Hannah was Helping Him & we got them all cut & Orrie went over with me & it is a nice pleasent day very warm & clear @ night I ditten come Home.

Aug. 10 – I helped to do the chores & I helped Granfather to draw in the rest of the Oats & some Hay to top out a stack & father drawed out some manure up in the long field and he went over to the church and @ night I came Home and it is a very warm day it rained a little & some cloudy to.

Aug. 11 – I helped to do the chores & father took the wool down to Shushan 154 lbs. @  * cts a pound and I put on some poison on the Potatoes down on round Hill and then cut weeds along the road & around the House in the afternoon I took Em & Orrie up to John Robinsons & at night I went up there & then down to Bedlam and it is a nice pleasent day pretty warm & clear.

Aug. 15 – I helped to do the chores & in the morning Father took Emma & I out to fort Edward & we took the cars for Lake George we went up on the lake aways on a steamer & we stayed all night we seen Mary Jane & Eliza we stopped at the Crasby* Hotel.  And father took Home 2 barrels of flour & he drawed some manure up in the long field & it is a nice pleasent day.

Aug. 16 – We sat around most all day & went across the Lake on a row boat & seen Caldwell village.  & we came down to fort Edward on the 5 o’clock train and father took some Potatoes out to fort Edward @ 50c a bu & brought us Home & it is a pretty Hot day & clear to.

Aug. 17 – I helped to do the chores and we drawed & scraped the manure out of the barn yard & drawed it over in the big meadow & I finished thrashing the Oats and it is a nice pleasent day some warm & cloudy.

Aug. 18 – I helped to do the chores & in the forenoon we drawed the manure out of the Hog yard on the Hill front of the house & I cut some weeds in the Orchard & we cleaned up the Oats over 15 bu. and in the afternoon Jim McWhorter & I went up above Bedlam & Played a game of Ball.  Bedlam Boys with C. Mills Boys** score B.B.s 9 C.B.s 9 even.  and Our folks went up to Glenroys but they was’n’t at home so they went over to Uncle Tom Hs & got Carrie & drove down to the church & Bedlam & came back Home & it is a nice pleasent day some cloudy & warm to.

Aug. 19 – I helped to do the chores, and we all but father went down to the school House to Sabbath school & @ night Carrie Orrie Annie Levi & I went down to Bedlam to church & we herd a sermon by Willard McEachron & His text was l Kings the 2 chapter & the 2 verse & Father & Ema stayed @ Home and Father has got a sore finger or thumb & it is a nice day pretty warm & some cloudy.

Aug. 22 – I helped to do the chores and I took a load of straw out to fort Edward 1920 @ $7 a ton and I got back before supper time & then I threshed rye and father went down to Bedlam to see a Doctor about His Hand it is no better @ night Carrie Annie & I went down to Argyle & it is a very Hot & clear day.

Aug. 23 – I helped to do the chores & I threshed rye all day & father ditten do much & his Hand is about the same and it is a pretty Hot day some cloudy rained a little @ night John Barkley came along & I took a ride & went down to Bedlam.

Aug. 24 – I helped to do the chores & in the forenoon I threshed rye tied up loose straw & father loaded up a load of straw & in the afternoon I took a load of straw out to fort edward 1820 @ $7 a ton and it is a nice pleasent day very warm & @ night I went down to Hugh lants to a dance Had a good time and father chored around a little.

Aug. 25 – I helped to do the chores and in the forenoon I drawed some stone off from the field down the road and in the afternoon I went down to Bedlam & Played a game of Ball with the Black Creek Boys score B. Boys 38 runs B.C.Boys 14 Runs.  @ night I stayed down there awhile and Father chored around some & Mary & Aggie McGeoch came up here a visiting & Aggie stayed & it is a nice pleasent day pretty warm to.

Aug. 26 – I helped to do the chores and Emma Aggie Orrie & I went down to Bedlam to the Methodist church to meeting & we herd a sermon by Mr Brown and father & Annie stayed @ Home & Kept House and we all but father went down to the school House to sabbath school and Fathers Hand is getting some Better & it is a nice pleasent day pretty warm & cool nights.

Aug. 27 – I helped to do the chores and in the forenoon I begun plowing for rye down in the field above the road and father spred some manure up on the Hill in front of the House & chored around and in the aftrernoon till supper time I threshed rye & then I plowed for rye down the road and father chored around some and it is a nice pleasent day warm & very dry & dusty Hard plowing.

Aug. 28 – I helped to do the chores and in the forenoon I plowed down in the field above the road for rye and Uncle Alex & Aunt Kate came up here a visiting and father’s Hand or felon is getting Better He visited with them and in the afternoon I threshed rye and @ night Aggie Orrie & I & John B. went down to Salem to some picnic or something & Ema & George B. went down to & it is a nice warm day some cloudy & cool.

Aug. 29 – I helped to do the chores & in the forenoon I plowed in the field down the road for rye and father went over to Granfather’s a foot and in the afternoon Ema & Orrie took Aggie down Home to South Argyle and I finished threshing what rye they was over in

the ** & then I plowed in the field down above the road and it is a nice pleasent day pretty warm to.

Aug. 30 – I helped to do the chores and I plowed most all day down in the field above the road & in the forenoon father went over to the church a foot and afternoon we cleaned up the rye they was about 38 bu and then father chored around & it is a nice pleasent day clear & very dry.  & @ night I went down to Bedlam & took a ride with a female I went in company with Hamp.

Aug. 31 – I helped to do the chores & I plowed most all day down in the field above the road & I got done all done plowing for rye now and father worked on the road & @ night Annie & I took the teacher down Home to Bedlam & Her school closed today and it is very dry warm & dusty.

 

Saturday, September 1, 1883 – I helped to do the chores and our folks all but me went up to Uncle Tom H’s a visiting & stayed all day and I cut brush around the field that I plowed & spred some manure up in the long field & in the afternoon Charley Williamson came down stayed awhile and it is a nice pleasent day very warm, dry and dusty to & @ night Norm, Charley & I went down to Bedlam & then to Salem we had a big time.

Sept. 2 – I helped to do the chores and we all stayed @ Home & Kept House and it is a nice warm day very dry & dusty things are drying up bad Potatoes ar dryeing pretty fast, some cloudy but don’t look much like rain & we all But Father; went down to Sabbath school @ the G.I. School House.

Sept. 3 – I helped to do the chores and father sowed the field down above the road to rye and I dragged it in & then we chored around some @ night Ema Annie & I drove over to Granfathers and it is a nice pleasent day some warm & windy & it rained a little last night some cloudy in the morning.

Sept. 4 – I helped to do the chores and in the forenoon I spred the rest of the manure up in the long field & the put the rest of the wood in the wood shed and father took some stones out of the road & chored around and in the afternoon father Ema Orrie & I down to Bedlam & left us there to help to rig up for the supper @ night &  @ night father & Annie came down & we went Home with them I had a good time.  & it is a pretty cool & windy day quite a frost last night.

Sept. 5 – I helped to do the chores and father went out to fort Edward he took some Butter & Potatoes P.s @ 40c a bu and I begun to cut corn up on the side Hill back of the barn I cut most all day and it is a nice pleasent day some cool & windy to.

Sept. 6 – I helped to do the chores and I went out to the County Fair Between fort Edward & Sandy Hill with H. Barkley we got home about ll o’clock we had a good time & father & annie went out to & Ema & Orrie went out to a nother way and it is a nice pleasent day cold in the morning very dusty.

Sept. 7 – I helped to do the chores and I cut corn all day in the field back of the barn & father cut in the same field part of the day & chored around and it is a nice pleasent day some warm & cloudy to.

Sept. 8 – I helped to do the chores and I cut corn most all day in the field back of the barn & Our folks went up to Johnney Williamson’s a visiting Father cut a little corn in the morning and it is a pretty cloudy & it rained a little now & then through the day but ditten mount to much though.

 

Sept. 9 – I helped to do the chores and Father Emma & Orrie went down to Argyle to church & they herd a sermon by Mr Cain and Annie & I stayed @ Home & Kept House & we all went down to sabbath school @ the school House But father He ditten go & it is a pretty cloudy & cold day & windy to.

Sept. 10 – I helped to do the chores and in the forenoon father commenced to dig Potatoes down on round Hill we dug 25 bu about they are not very good & in the afternoon we cut the corn down in the little follow & then cut in the field by the barn and it is a nice pleasent day some warm Heavy frost in the morning cold to.

Sept. 11 – I helped to do the chores and I cut corn all day in the field back of the barn and father took a small load of rye out to fort edward 31 bu @ 68 cts a bu and when he came back he cut corn back of the barn and it is a nice pleasent day some warm to frost in the morning.

Sept. 12 – I helped to do the chores and in the forenoon we cut corn in the field by the barn & we got done all done cutting corn now and in the afternoon we dug potatoes down on round Hill about 24 bu and @ night Hamp Beattie & I went down to Bedlam & it is a nice pleasent day some warm.

Sept. 13 – I helped to do the chores & in the forenoon we dug Potatoes down on round Hill about 26 bu and in the afternoon we all went down to the Hebron Fair it rained like fury & Hamp Beattie went down with us @ night he stayed all night with me and Grandfather & Granmother came over & stoped for dinner & then went down to the fair it rained most all afternoon offle nasty.

Sept. 14 – I helped to do the chores and in the forenoon we dug Potatoes down on round Hill and in the afternoon we all went down to Bedlam to the fair and I drove down @ night I went down to lake Laturdale to a dance Had a good time and it is a pretty cloudy day rained @ night some to.

Sept. 15 – I helped to do the chores and we dug Potatoes most all day down on round Hill about 57 bu and it is a pretty cloudy day rained alittle in the morning.  and it is quite warm after the rain cleared off in the afternoon it was a fine rain But it was bad for the Bedlam Fair.

Sept. 16 – I helped to do the chores and we all stayed @ home & Kept House & @ night we all went down to the school House @ Sabbath school.  and it is a nice pleasent day some cloudy & pretty warm to.

Sept. 17 – I helped to do the chores and we dug Potatoes awhile in the morning till it came on rain down on round Hill and then I cut up some old wood @ the Hog pen and Father tapped my Boots and in the afternoon we went up to Glenroys and then up to Belcher & then down to James Beatties & got some plums and then we came Home and it is a pretty cloudy day rained a lot.

Sept. 18 – I helped to do the chores and we dug Potatoes all day down on round Hill we dug about 75 bu and it is a nice pleasent day some warm to.  some moist to day.

Sept. 19 – I helped to do the chores and we dug Potatoes all day down on round Hill and @ night I went up to Belcher & bought a carriage for $90.00 of Mr Oatman and annie went up as far as Glenroys and it is a nice pleasent day some warm to.

Sept. 20 – I helped to do the chores and we dug Potatoes most of the day down on round Hill & then we drawed in 2 Small loads of corn from down in the little follow & @ night I went up to Belcher and got my new wagon and it is a nice pleasent day warm & some cloudy to.

Sept. 21 – I helped to do the chores and we dug Potatoes most all day down on round Hill and in the afternoon the girls all took a ride in my wagon to argyle & North Argyle & all round and it is a nice pleasent day pretty Hot weather now.

Sept. 22 – I helped to do the chores and in the forenoon father & Emma took some Butter out to the fort and Mary Jane came Home with them and I dug a load of Potatoes down on round Hill & then I husked corn till night & @ night I went up to Glenroys & stayed all night & it is a nice pleasent day pretty Hot.

Sept. 23 – I helped to do the chores and I went to church up to Belcher from glenroys herd a sermon by mr Brown stayed to Glen’s till after dinner & then came Home & went down to the school House & herd a sermon by Willard McEachron & it is a nice warm day pretty cloudy.  & father is sick.

Sept. 29 – I helped to do the chores and in the forenoon we dug Potatoes up on top of the Hill and in the afternoon we picked apples up in the Orchard and about night Father went down to Argyle to See about getting some Help to dig Potatoes & it is a nice pleasent day some cloudy & cool to.
Sept. 30 – I helped to do the chores and Orrie Annie & I went down to Bedlam to church & we herd a sermon by Mr Wiley & His text was Hebrews the 11 chapter and the 30 verse and Father & Emma stayed @ Home and Kept House & it is a pretty cloudy day & cool to it rained a lot last night.

 

Monday, October 1, 1883 – I helped to do the chores and Johnney D McDougall & Jim Lindsay came up to help us dig Potatoes and we dug Potatoes all day up on top of the Hill But Jim part of the day went down to help uncle Dave to thresh and it is a nice pleasent day some cool to.

 

 

Oct. 2 – I helped to do the chores and John Jim & I dug Potatoes down on Round Hill till it came on rain & Father picked some apples & it rained most of the day very Hard part of the time big rain we chored around & Husked what corn that they was in the barn pretty cool rain & day.

Oct. 3 – I helped to do the chores and we all dug Potatoes all day down on Round Hill and it was pretty wet digging & it is a nice pleasent day but very windy in the afternoon & some cloudy very wet now.

Oct. 4 – I helped to do the chores and Jim John & I dug Potatoes all day down on round Hill & Father helped us to pick them up & draw them up to the House & it is a nice pleasent day very cold & raw & windy to frooze some last night.

Oct. 5 – I helped to do the chores and in the forenoon we all dug Potatoes down on Round Hill but father He picked up & drawed them and in the afternoon we finished down there & went a digging up on top of the Hill and it frooze in the morning quite Hard and it is a pretty cool day.

Oct. 6 – I helped to do the chores and we all dug Potatoes up on top of the Hill & uncle Dave helped a little while and it is a nice pleasent day some warm frooze Hardest in the morning yet and @ night I took John & Jim down Home or to Argyle.  & Eliza came here a visiting.

Oct. 7 – I helped to do the chores and they was meeting over to Our church & we all went over & we herd a sermon by Willard McEachron & His text was Ephesians the 2 chapter & the 20, 21, &22 verses and the church looks fine and it is a nice pleasent day some warmer to.

Oct. 8 – I helped to do the chores and in the forenoon we pulled Beans & Load up the rest of a load of Potatoes & in the afternoon father took the load of Potatoes out to the Fort and I dug Potatoes up on top of the Hill and it is a nice pleasent day clear & some warmer @ night Norman and I went down to Bedlam.

Oct. 9 – I helped to do the chores and in the forenoon we pulled Beans up in the corn field & Loaded up a load of Potatoes & in the afternoon father took the load out to the Fort and I dug Potatoes up on top of the Hill and it is a nice pleasent day quite warm & clear to @ night I went down to school meeting James Mahaffy Elected Trustee Dock Kinny for collector.

Oct. 10 – I helped to do the chores and in the forenoon we finished pulling Beans in the corn & then we loaded up a load of Potatoes and I Husked some corn & father picked some apples & in the afternoon father took the load out to the Fort and I Husked some corn & Annie took a ride down to Bedlam in my wagon Had a good time @ night I Husked corn till 10 o’clock and it is a nice pleasent day clear & quite warm.

Oct. 11 – I helped to do the chores and in the fornoon we dug the rest of the Potatoes up on top of the Hill all done up there and in the afternoon uncle Alex & Aunt Kate & Mary Jane came up here & Alex & we went up to Beatties Auction & Glen & Joe came down to.  and @ night Norm & I went up to Hamp Beatties to a party Had a good time and it is a nice pleasent day some cloudy & warm.

Oct. 12 – I helped to do the chores and Father took a load of Potatoes out to fort Edward and brought Back over a ton of coal and I Husked corn in the barn most all day finished what they was in and @ night Ema Annie & I went down to Bedlam to the Law & Order meeting and it is a pretty cloudy but quite warm. 

 

Oct. 13 – I helped to do the chores and in the forenoon we red out the barn stacked the stalks & drawed the corn over to the wagon House and Husked some corn out in the field by the barn and in the afternoon we Husked out in the field & drawed in what we Husked a box full and it is a pretty cloudy day rained some quite warm.

Oct. 14 – I helped to do the chores and we all went to church & we herd a sermon by Willard McEachron & His text was l Corinthians the 16 chapter  & the last clause of the 19 verse and it is a pretty cloudy day some windy & getting colder.  we had quite a rain last night.

Oct. 15 – I helped to do the chores and in the forenoon we dug part of the piece of Potatoes down in the corn field & then we drawed l load of corn in the barn & 2 loads of pumpkins to the Hog pen and in the afternoon father took a load of Potatoes out to the fort and I Husked corn in the barn and it is a pretty windy & raw day some cool & cloudy to and annie went over to Granfathers & stayed all night.

Oct. 16 – I helped to do the chores and in the forenoon we dug the rest of the Potatoes down in the corn field all done digging now and we drawed in l load of corn or 2.  and loaded up the rest of the load & in the afternoon father took a load of Potatoes out to fort Edward and I Husked corn in the barn and @ night Ema Orrie & I went down to Bedlam and annie came Home from Granfather’s and it is a  nice pleasent day but cold in the morning.

Oct. 17 – I helped to do the chores and we red out the barn Husked some & then we drawed corn in the barn 6 loads & drawed some pumpkins 2 small loads & chored around and Ema went down to Troy & Albany with Nancy Ben McMullen’s wife.  Ben took them to Salem and it is a nice pleasent day pretty clear but quite cold in the mornings.

 Oct. 18 – I helped to do the chores and Father took a load of Potatoes out to fort Edward & Brought Home over a ton of Coal @ $5.25 a ton and I Husked corn all day in the barn and it is a pretty cloudy & windy day getting some warmer.

Oct. 19 – I helped to do the chores and we Husked corn in the barn awhile & then drawed the corn over to the House & stacked the stalks and then we drawed in 2 loads of corn in the barn and it is a nice warm day pretty cloudy & windy to.

Oct. 20 – I helped to do the chores and in the forenoon we both Husked corn in the barn till about 11 o’clock & then father took a load of Potatoes out to fort Edward, and in the afternoon I Husked corn & chored around and Ema got back Home and it is a pretty cloudy day warm but got cold @ night & @ night I went down to Bedlam.

Oct. 21 – I helped to do the chores and father Orrie annie and I went to church & we herd a sermon by Willard McEachron & His text was the 17 chapter of John & the 3 verse and Ema stayed @ Home & Kept House and it is a pretty cold, windy & raw day.

Oct. 22 – I helped to do the chores & I Husked corn most all day in the barn & in the forenoon father Husked corn & in the afternoon father went over to the church to a Trustee meeting & it is a nice pleasent day some cool but clear @ night we dressed some poultry or Roosters.

Oct. 23 – I helped to do the chores and father took a load of Potatoes out to fort Edward and he took out some Poultry @ 15c a lb. and I Husked the rest of the corn in the barn & then red out the barn & begun to thresh a few Oats & when Father came Home we cleaned up the Oats & then drawed 3 loads of corn in the barn and it is a pretty cloudy day some warm and @ night I went to a Party over to Charley Sheldon’s Had a big time.

Oct. 24 -  I helped to do the chores and we husked corn in the barn most of the day & we Killed a sheep and it cleared off about night and it is a pretty cloudy day rained some in the morning and @ night Emma Orrie and I went down to Jay Barkleys to a sociable and had a pretty good time.

Oct. 25 – I helped to do the chores and we drawed in all of the corn in the field by the barn in the barn & stacked what stalks they was & fenced the stacks of stalks & it is a nice pleasent day some warmer & @ night we dressed some Poultry and loaded up a load of Potatoes.

Oct. 26 – I helped to do the chores and Father took a load of Potatoes out to fort Edward and in the forenoon I helped uncle Dave Kill His Pigs & in the afternoon I Husked corn and it is a pretty cloudy day rained a little some warm to.

Oct. 27 – I helped to do the chores and I husked corn all day in the barn and in the forenoon father Husked corn & in the afternoon he went around collecting in Salary money & it is a pretty cloudy day some warm to & @ night I went down to Argyle.

Oct. 28 – I helped to do the chores and we all went to church & we herd a sermon by Willard McEachron and His text was Isiaiah the 17 chapter & the 10 & 11 verses and it is a pretty cloudy day clearing off some colder.

Oct. 29 – I helped to do the chores and we Husked corn most of the day in the barn and chored around some and it is a pretty cloudy & windy day and it rained a lot to.

Oct. 30 – I helped to do the chores and I took a load of Potatoes out to fort Edward and I got 2 pair of drawers a pair of shirts and etc. and father Husked part of the day in the barn and it is a pretty windy day some cloudy clearing off.

Oct. 31 – I helped to do the chores and Father took a load of Potatoes out to fort Edward and in the forenoon I husked corn & in the afternoon I went down to Bedlam & then Husked some corn & Helped to load up a load of Potatoes and it is a pretty cloudy day some warm & cooler at night.

 

Thursday, November 1, 1883 – I helped to do the chores and I Husked corn most all day in the barn most done and father took a load of Potatoes down to Salem and it is a pretty cloudy & cool day some windy & clear to and @ night we Killed some more Poultry & I got a letter from Hamp Beattie Georgia.

Nov. 2 – I helped to do the chores and father took a load of Potatoes out to fort Edward and Orrie went to and they got a stove and Jim McWhorter & I sawed & split wood most all day down to the school House and it is a pretty cloudy day & some cool & @ night it snowed a little & Jim. Norm & I went down to Argyle to a Party.

Nov. 3 – I helped to do the chores and father took a load of Potatoes& 2 barrels of Apples out to Fort Edward and in the forenoon Jim & I finished sawing the wood down in the school House & in the afternoon we went down to Bedlam & Played a game of Ball the school Boys and us Outsiders score stood S.B. 22 Runs & O. 30 Runs and it is a pretty cloudy & cool day.

Nov. 4 – I helped to do the chores and we all went to church & we herd a sermon by Willard McEachron & His text Deuteronomy the 32 chapter & the 26 verse and it is a nice pleasent day some cloudy & cool.

 

 

Nov. 5 – I helped to do the chores and in the forenoon we drawed some penals of board fence up on top of the Hill in front of the House to make a stack yard drawed some old wood and in the afternoon Father took a grist down to Bedlam & I Husked corn and @ night Charley Williamson came over & stayed all night - & we went out to fort Edward had quite a time and it is a nice pleasent day warm to.

Nov. 6 – I helped to do the chores and in the forenoon I Husked corn & I got done all done now and Charley stayed around till noon & father took a load of Potatoes out to the fort and in the afternoon I cut some Old wood & went down to Argyle & voted for the first time straight Republican ticket & it is a nice pleasent day pretty warm for the time of year.

Nov. 7 – I helped to do the chores and father took a load of Potatoes out to fort Edward & when he came back he stopped @ Argyle & got the Horses shawd & I chopped wood most of the day up back by Dunk McDougalls and @ night we all went over to George Gibsons to a sociable the teacher rode over with us and it is a nice pleasent day some warm.

Nov. 8 -  I helped to do the chores and in the forenoon we red out the barn & threshed some Oats & chored around & in the afternoon we went over to the church to a bee plowing &  scrapeing around the church and it is a nice pleasent day warm and @ night I went up to Harve McNeils to a Husking bee.

Nov. 9 – I helped to do the chores and in the forenoon we threshed some Oats & then went up back in the woods & cut some wood.  and in the afternoon Father Orrie & Emma went over to the church to meeting and I threshed some Oats it rained quite a lot and it is a pretty cloudy day warm to.

Nov. 10 – I helped to do the chores and in the forenoon we chopped wood up back in the woods and in the afternoon we all went to church & we herd a sermon by Willard McEachron & it is a pretty cloudy day rained @ night quite a lot.

Nov. 11 – I helped to do the chores and we all went to church & we herd a sermon by Willard McEachron & His text was Mark the 8 chapter & the 4 verse and it was Communion Sabbath and it is a pretty cloudy day some clear & very windy to.

Nov. 12 – I helped to do the chores and Captain Orr moved down to South Argyle & I took a load of moveing for Him & father chored around & choped some up in the woods and it is a very windy day & cold to.

Nov. 13 – I helped to do the chores and father took a load of Potatoes out to the fort and in the forenoon I cut wood up back in the woods and in the afternoon I threshed Oats and it is a pretty cloudy day quite cold & windy.

Nov. 14 – I helped to do the chores and I took a load of Potatoes out to the fort and father chored around & the girls had a quilting & Uncle Alex & Aunt Kate came up & Aunt Ellen Mary Jane Nancy McMillen & Mary Bain & Joe was here & Eliza to I took her down to John Pattersons @ night & it is a pretty cool day.

Nov. 15 – I helped to do the chores and father took a load of Potatoes out to Fort Edward and in the forenoon I helped uncle Dave Kill His Pigs or Hogs.  And in the afternoon I went down to Bedlam & chored around and it is a pretty cool day some cloudy to.

Nov. 16 – I helped to do the chores and I took a load of Potatoes out to fort Edward and father split wood up in the woods by Dunks and it is a pretty cold day cold weather now.  & at night I went down to South Argyle to a dance had a good time.

Nov. 17 – I helped to do the chores and father took a load of Potatoes out to the fort and I chopped wood about all day down in the woods by Daves and it is a pretty cool day & cloudy to.

Nov. 18 – I helped to do the chores & we all went to church & we herd a sermon by Willard McEachron & His text was Eccleceastics the 23 chapter and the 21 verse and it is a pretty cloudy day some warmer.

Nov. 19 – I helped to do the chores and father took a load of Potatoes out to fort Edward and in the forenoon Orrie & I went down to Argyle & she had 3 teeth pulled & I had a part of one pulled & 3 filled and when we came back father & I sorted a load of Potatoes & loaded them up and it is a nice warm day some cloudy.

Nov. 20 – I helped to do the chores and in the forenoon I chopped wood down in the woods and father took a load of Potatoes out to fort Edward and in the afternoon I cut up old wood by the Hog pen till father came Home & then we sorted a nother load of Potatoes and @ night I went down to Bedlam & got a Blonde & then went over to Argyle to a Show and it is a nice warm day some cloudy & the stott girls & Anna Tilford came up here & anna stayed.

Nov. 21 – I helped to do the chores and I took a load of Potatoes out to fort Edward & father finished splitting wood up back in the woods and @ night the sociable was @ our House they was a lot here and it is a pretty warm & cloudy day rained a little.

Nov. 22 – I helped to do the chores and I plowed most all day down on Round Hill and father chored around & split some wood down in the woods and it is a very warm day for the time of year and it is some cloudy to.

Nov. 23 – I helped to do the chores and I plowed all day down on round Hill & in the forenoon father split some wood down in the woods & in the afternoon he went over to the church and it is a pretty cloudy day But warm as summer.

Nov. 24 – I helped to do the chores and I plowed most all day down on Round Hill and father split some wood down in the woods and Robert (?) Carter came up to put an eave trough up on the Hog pen & father chored around with him and it is a pretty cloudy day warm rained some in the morning.  @ night it cleared off some cooler & @ night I went down to Bedlam & Anna Tilford & Orrie went down with me.

Nov. 25 – I helped to do the chores and we all went to church & we herd a sermon by Willard McEachron & His text was Isiaiah the 54 chapter and the 10 verse and it is a nice pleasent day some cloudy & warm.

Nov. 26 – I helped to do the chores and I plowed most all day down on Round Hill and father Killed a sheep & cut some wood down in the woods and chored around and it rained some about night & it is a nice warm day some cloudy.

Nov. 27 – I helped to do the chores and in the forenoon we Killed the Hogs & Pigs & Uncle Dave glenroy & Jim McWhorter helped us and in the afternoon I plowed down on round Hill & father chored around & it is a nice pleasent day but pretty windy & cold to.

Nov. 28 – I helped to do the chores and father took the Pork out to fort Edward 2 Hogs & 2 pigs and 2 Barrels of Apples and I chopped wood most all day down in the woods and uncle Alex came up & got one pig and it is a nice pleasent day pretty cold though @ night Norm & I took quite a ride.

 

 

Nov. 29 – I helped to do the chores and in the forenoon I threshed Beans & went to church with our folks & then I came Home & took the colt & got it shawd & finished threshing the beans & Our folks went up to Glenroy’s from church & it is a pretty cloudy & cold day.  and @ night I went down to Bedlam to an Oyster supper & Anna Tilford & Orrie went to.

Nov. 30 – I helped to do the chores and in the forenoon we cleaned up the Beans & then I threshed Oats & father chored around and in the afternoon we went down to the woods & split chopped & piled up wood and it is a pretty cloudy & cool day @ night Ema & I took Anna Tilford down to Argyle & we went down to the party awhile James A. McDougalls.

 

Saturday, December 1, 1883 – I helped to do the chores and I thresheed Oats most all day & in the forenoon father put up a grist & chored around and in the afternoon he took the grist down to Bedlam and it is a nice pleasent day But cold & @ night George & Maggie Williams came up awhile.

Dec. 2 – (top of page – “First Snow this year.”) – I helped to do the chores and we all went to church & we herd a sermon by Mr Wiley & His text l Samuel the 3 chapter & the 13 verse and it is a nice pleasent day But quite cold last night we had a little snow Storm.  the first to mount to any thing.

Dec. 3 – I helped to do the chores and in the forenoon I went up & helped Robert McWhorter to Kill his Hogs & Pigs and father chored around and in the afternoon I threshed Oats and father chored around & @ night I got the Old Buggie wagon from father & went up to Glenroys and traded with Him & got a side bar wagon & it is a nice pleasent day quite cold.

Dec. 4 – I helped to do the chores and Ema Orrie & I went out to the fort & got some things and father chored around & in the afternoon went up to Gillises Auction and it is a nice pleasent day pretty cool though and @ night I went down to Jay Barkleys to a Party.

Dec. 5 – I helped to do the chores and in the morning I went up to Glenroys & helped him to Kill his Hogs & Pigs and then we went up to Whites Auction awhile & then came Home & washed a wagon & father chored around and cut some wood and @ night I went up to Gourleys to a social had a good time & it is a pretty cloudy day warm though.

Dec. 6 – I helped to do the chores and and in the forenoon I threshed Oats and went to Bedlam and father chored around and in the afternoon I chopped wood down in the woods and father split some and it is a nice pleasent day some cool.

Dec. 7 – I helped to do the chores and in the forenoon I threshed some Oats & then we cleaned up what was threshed & they was about 50 bu. and in the afternoon I cut wood down in the woods & father did to and it is a nice warm day some clear.  @ night I went down to Argyle.

Dec. 8 – I helped to do the chores and all of Our folks but myself went down to Bedlam a visiting @ Uncle John C’s and I chored around and cut a little wood down in the woods & @ night I went down to Argyle and it is a pretty cloudy day rained quite a lot in the morning warm as summer.

Dec. 9 – I helped to do the chores and we all went to church & we herd a sermon by Willard McEachron his text was l Samuel the 20 chapter & the 34 verse and it is a pretty cloudy day warm & quite warm to or muddy.

Dec. 10 – I helped to do the chores and Willie McEachron came here to thresh the grain and Glenroy, Dave cloash & James McWhorter helped us and we threshed about 120 bu of rye and it is pretty cloudy day snowed some.

Dec. 11 – I helped to do the chores and we all threshed Oats about 300 bu. and it is a nice pleasent day some cloudy & cooler.

Dec. 12 – I helped to do the chores & in the forenoon we all threshed Oats and in the afternoon Dave Cloash & I took nick & Dave went up & got Robert McWhorter to work in his place & I went up & got Ben McMillen to work in my place & they finished threshing the Oats about 530 bu & threshed the rest of the rye about 25 bu and they got all done threshing here & it is a nice pleasent day some cool it snowed about 2 inches last night I am pretty sick.

Dec. 13 – I am not much Better I ditten hardly go out of the House and father chored around all day at one thing and a nother and it is a pretty cloudy day some cool warmer @ night.  and at night I was not so well.

Dec. 14 – I am some Better to day last night I was not so well and in the forenoon father went down & helped uncle Dave to Kill his Bull and in the afternoon Jim McWhorter helped father at one thing and a nother to clean up the rye etc.  & Glenroy helped them some to.  and it rained last night some & it is a pretty cloudy & wet day warm to.

Dec. 15 – I helped to do the chores and I am getting Better out a good deal and father went out to fort Edward & took 2 Barrels of Apples @ $*  a bbl. and in the afternoon I went down to Bedlam to get a place to put my Horse when I go to school & Orrie & Ema went along & it is a very cold, raw, windy day sudden change in the weather from last night.  snowed last night about 1 inch.

Dec. 16 – I helped to do the chores and we all went to church and we herd a sermon by Willard McEachron & text was Ezekiel the 33 chapter and the ll verse and it is a pretty cold day.

 Dec. 17 – I commenced going to school down to Bedlam for the first this Winter I drive a Horse & take Orrie & Annie and father chored around in the afternoon he went down to Bedlam and it is a pretty cold day some cloudy & snowed some to.

Dec. 18 – I helped to do the chores and I went to school down to Bedlam and father chored around all day and it snowed some last night and some through the day and it is a petty cloudy cool & windy day.

Dec. 19 – I helped to do the chores and I went to school and father chored around and it snowed quiet a lot most all day & part of the day pretty hard it snowed much as four inches should think and at night I went to the social @ John H Robinson’s we went in a sleigh cold a flury.

Dec. 20 – I helped to do the chores and I went to school down to Bedlam and we went in a sleigh for the first now much sleighing though and father chored around and it is a pretty cloudy & cool day.  (at the bottom of the page, in fancy script, he wrote:  “We went in a sleigh & it scratched awfully.  Anon”)

Dec. 21 – I went to school down at West Hebron and helped to do the chores and father put up a load of Oats and chored around and it snowed all forenoon quite hard part of the time snowed about ½ foot the snow is very dry & light cleared off cool at night.

87 bu @ * cts a bu and I chored around & in the afternoon Ema & I went down to Bedlam for a ride and it is a nice pleasent day but cold & pretty good sleighing now.

Dec. 23 – I helped to do the chores and Father Orrie Annie & I went to church and we herd a sermon by Willard McEachron & his text was Isaiah the 8 chapter & the 6 verse and Emma stayed at home & Kept house and it is a very cold day 20 below zero some places clear & some windy we went to church for the first time in a sleigh this winter.

Dec. 24 – I helped to do the chores and in the morning we loaded up a load of rye straw and I took the load out to fort Edward & I had on 2250 lbs. @ $6. a ton and father chored around and it is a pretty cloudy & cold day snowed in the morning some some warmer at night.

Dec. 25 – I helped to do the chores and in the forenoon we went down in the swamp by Daves & drawed out one pine log & then we had to give it up it was so soft and then we loaded up a load of straw and in the afternoon the girls & I went down to Bedlam to the ministers Mr McEachrons and stayed till night & father stayed @ Home & Mrs Connor came Home with us and it is a nice warm day with good sleighing & some cloudy.**

Dec. 26 – I helped to do the chores & I took a load of Straw out to Fort Edward and I broke down had to come back to Argyle to get rigged up and father chored around & drove over to Granfathers but they was gone and @ night Ema & Orrie & I went over to the church to Prayer meeting and it is a nice pleasent day some warmer.  good sleighing.

Dec. 27 – I helped to do the chores and I took a load of straw out to Ft. Edward, and father chored around and in the afternoon he drove down to Bedlam and it is a pretty cloudy day rained @ night a lot the snow will go I guess.

Dec. 28 – I helped to do the chores and I took a load of Rye Straw out to Fort Edward 2470 lbs. @ $6. a ton and and father chored around & in the afternoon he drove over to granfathers they are all well and it is a pretty windy & raw sort of a day cleared off last night cold pretty icy now.

Dec. 29 – I helped to do the chores and I took a load of Rye Straw out to Fort Edward 2690 lbs. @ $6. a ton.  and father chored around and in the afternoon he took Mrs Connor down to Bedlam and @ night James Robinson & his two sisters came down here & mad a call and it is a nice pleasent day some cold & at night we loaded up the last of the straw.

Dec. 30 – I helped to do the chores and we all went to church & we herd a sermon by Mr Seth Cary & his text was 2 Corinthians the 5 chapter & the first clause of the 5 verse and it is a pretty cloudy day & it snowed most all afternoon not very cold.

Dec. 31 – I helped to do the chores and I took a load of straw out to fort Edward 2080 lbs @ $6 a ton and father chored around and @ night I and another fellow took a ride & stoped awhile to a house.  had quite a time and it is a pretty cloudy & cool day & we have come to the close of another year 1883 all enjoying good health at Present.
