This diary was written by Georgiana, with help from Marjory & Florence writing for her sometimes. Occasionally Georgiana’s mother is referred to as Mother, and sometimes as Grandma, but I believe they are the same person -- Georgiana’s mother. 

 

          Mon. Jan. 1: (Florence's handwriting)  “When we got up this morning it had thawed a lot. We had a hard rain in the night. It is very sloppy. The thermometer is 38º above zero. Johnny killed a rooster after they got through milking. Ipicked it after breakfast. We had it for dinner about 2:00 o’clock. Jimmy drew out a couple loads manure. It rained all day. The snow is wasted a lot. We listened to the Rosebowl Parade at 12:45 and at night listened to the football game between Stamford and Columbia University of New York. Laurence is sick with the grip. He had been in bed a couple of days.”

          Tues. Jan. 2: “It is pretty cold again this morning. About 2º below zero. Florence didn’t go to school today. I thought the schoolhouse would be cold and she would catch more cold. They boys did chores and put some calk in the horses shoes. They sorted some potatoes. We did quite a big washing. The clothes froze hard and they didn’t get dry. Marjory called up and said Laurence was some better. Miss Murray called and wanted some potatoes tomorrow.”

          Wed. Jan. 3: (Busy's handwriting)  “zero  very icy   We got up quite early. and did the ordinary work. Jimmy took some potatoes to Falls and Florence to school. I made pies. Busy took down some clothes and ironed some. Johnny sorted potatoes. Jimmy came back to Argyle and went down to Laurences and split some wood and done some errands for them, then Earl came home with him. We had dinner. Jimmy took a load of potatoes to Falls. Busy took down rest of clothes except blanket left on porch. We finished the ironing. Johnny chored around. The boys did chores and milked. I made cake. We had supper. All went to Argyle. Iwent to Mothers. Boys took Earl home. Marion, Florence and Busy went to B. B. practice. Florence and Busy both stayed to Marions all nite. Boys and I came home Fair day, cloudy P. M. snowed a little at nite very icy.

          Thur. Jan. 4: “very icy   Idid up the housework. Imade brown bread. Jimmy drew manure. Johnny did chores and fixed the engine (a part of it) We had dinner. Jimmy sorted potatoes. Johnny took a grist to Argyle and brought Busy home from Argyle. (Marions). Florence stayed to Marions all nite. The boys did chores and milked. We had supper. Johnny went away. Not very cold. But very icy. Isprained my ankle today somehow. It is very lame and sore.”

          Fri. Jan. 5: “We did up the housework. Imade cookies. Busy washed the kitchen windows. Jimmy sorted potatoes. Johnny started engine and fixed his gun, then sorted potatoes. We had dinner shortly after noon. Then Jimmy took some potatoes to Glens Falls. Iwent to Argyle to bank and down to Marjorys while he went to Falls. We stopped at Marions and brought Florence and got Teresa, Got home around 5. The boys did chores and milked. We had supper. Jimmy went away. Warmer today and thawing. Snowed a little this morning and rained fine most all day. Not so icy now. My ankle is still lame and sore.”

          Sat. Jan. 6: “We did up the ordinary work. Imade pancakes. The boys sorted potatoes. We took down the Christmas Tree and things. Imade doughnuts. Busy cleaned up in sitting room. Florence pieled potatoes and washed out a few clothes. We had dinner. Jimmy took the sleigh behind his car over to S. Hills and got new shoes put on them. Got home around 5. In the afternoon  Imade pies. Busy moped in kitchen. The boys did chores and milked. We had supper. Johnny went away. Kinda cloudy most all day. Not very cold, thawing. Johnny took John McKernons scales home this afternoon.”

          Sun. Jan. 7: “We did up the housework. We made and froze ice cream. Imade chocolate sauce. No church today so we stayed home. It has been snowing fine all forenoon. Not so very cold but damp. Snow is wet, changed to rain in afternoon. Jimmy went away around noon. Johnny did chores. Ido not feel very well today. Jimmy came home and brought Raechel around 4:30. Then we had dinner. We washed dishes. They boys did chores and milked. Jimmy took Rae home. The rest of us stayed home. Cloudy but stopped storming around dark. My ankle is kinda lame and weak yet. Rained in nite.”

          Mon. Jan. 8: “We got up early and after breakfast Johnny took Florence and Teresa to school and Busy went to Marions to stay with Ray as Marion & Ed go to N. Argyle to take in taxes. Johnny shoveled the snow off Grandma roof and got home around noon. I made pies and did things. Jim drew manure. We had dinner. Johnny has bad cold but did chores. Jimmy drew manure. Johnny went to Argyle, he and Busy took down Mothers stove pipe. Johnny brought Busy home. The boys did chores and milked. We had supper. All went to Argyle. Florence went to Marjorys after school. I went to Mothers, they went down after Florence.  I stayed with Marions kids, Marion, Busy & Florence went to B. B. Practice. Florence stayed to Marjorys all nite. cloudy, thawing all day.”

          Tues. Jan. 9: " We did up the housework. We washed some clothes by hand. Jim drew manure. Busy mixed bread this morning. We had dinner. Jimmy drew manure. Johnny has bad cold but did chores. Ibaked bread, made cake and apple sauce. Busy ironed. The boys milked. We had supper. Florence went to Marjorys after school and stayed all nite. Cloudy and mild today. We all stayed home at nite.”

          Wed. Jan. 10: “We did up the housework. Jimmy drew manure. Johnny did chores and some work on car. Imade doughnuts. We had dinner. The boys sorted potatoes. Then Jimmy took some potatoes to falls and got groceries. Johnny did chores. We mended. Jimmy got home around 5. Kinda cold today but a fair day. Florence went to Marjorys after school and stayed all nite. The boys did chores and milked. We had supper. Below freezing all day but not terrible cold. Jimmy went away at nite.”

          Thur. Jan. 11: “We did up the housework. Jimmy drew manure. Imade pies and cookies. Johnny sorted some potatoes then took some down to Hank Moore. We had dinner. Jimmy drew manure. We mended. Johnny got home around 2:30 and did chores. Fair day, below freezing but not very cold. Florence went to Marjorys after school. The boys did chores and milked. We had supper. We all went to Argyle. We went down to Marjorys awhile and got Florence Istayed at Marions with kids. Marion, Ed, Florence, Busy and boys went to dance in Argyle Hall. They took Florence down to Marjorys to stay all nite. Then we came home.”

          Fri. Jan. 12: “We did up the housework. The boys tore out the floor in the old cow barn where they put ice. Imade pies. We had dinner. The boys sorted potatoes and Jimmy took some to Glens Falls. Johnny, Busy & Iwent to Argyle, Johnny got a grist ground. Iwent to Mothers. Icame home with Johnny. Busy and Florence and Teresa came home with Jimmy. A fair day, only cold. Thawing a little. The boys did chores. We had supper. Marjory, Laurence and children came up. Earl stayed all nite. Jimmy has a bad cold.”

          Sat. Jan. 13: “We did up the housework. Ipicked a rooster after Johnny killed it. The boys drew dirt in ice house and did chores. Imade doughnuts. Busy made brown bread. Florence washed out a few clothes, Busy swept some. Florence and Isent an order to M. Wards. Florence played with Earl. A man came and bought Olivers heifer, before dinner, came and took her in the afternoon. We had chicken dinner. The girls washed dishes. Imade a cake. Florence swept kitchen floor and Busy moped. The boys finished the ice house. We made ice cream. The boys did chores and milked. We had supper. All stayed home at night. Earl stayed all nite too. A cloudy day and started snowing and raining around 4, soon was all snow. Wet & heavy. Still snowing when we went to bed. Not very cold.”

          Sun. Jan. 14: “There is about 18 inches of snow. Trees covered and hanging to the ground. Telephones out of order. The boys did chores. We had breakfast and did up the housework. The boys made pathes with horse. Wind blows a little once in awhile. Not very cold around freezing. It started snow around 12. And snowed hard until around 3. and a little after that finer. We had dinner around 1 o’clock. Boys did chores. Girls made candy. Boys did chores and milked. We had supper. All stayed home all day and at nite. Earl here yet to stay all nite. Around 20 inches snow. Getting colder. 15 above zero at nite. Snow plow came up thru around 7:30.”

          Mon. Jan. 15: “Lots of snow. We did up the housework. Florence rode to school with Darflers. Boys both have bad colds so didn’t do much only chores. Imade biscuits and short cake. We had dinner. The boys took team and went over in back field to made track thru deep snow and then Jimmy drew some manure. Johnny did chores. Imended. Kinda cold around 15º above zero. Boys did chores and milked. A fair day, only cold. Sunshone most all day. We had supper. Florence went to Marjorys after school to stay all nite. Mrs. Gilchrist came down awhile this afternoon as Edwin went some where else in sleigh. All stayed home at night.”

          Tues. Jan. 16: “We did up the housework. Ido not feel very well today. Jimmy sorted some potatoes and took some out to Falls. Johnny did chores. Busy made pies. They had dinner around 2 o’clock Jimmy came home on his way home, he went to see George Hanna about getting ice. The boys did chores. Imade a spongue cake. Boys milked. We had supper. Jimmy and Busy took Earl home, got Florence and Marion, girls practiced basketball, Jimmy stayed at Marions with kids. Florence went back to Marjorys to stay all nite. Johnny and Istayed home. A nice day, sunshone all day. But kinda cold.”

          Wed. Jan. 17: “10º above zero   We did up the housework. Ifelt better today, We washed some clothes out by hand. In the forenoon Johnny did chores. Jimmy went over to the lake and helped George Hanna and other men scrape snow off mud lake and he brought home a load of ice at noon. We had dinner. Johnny packed ice & Jimmy got 2 loads in the afternoon. Busy did the ironing after Itook the clothes down. Imended. A nice day, only cold below freezing all day. Sunshone tho. The boys did chores and milked. We had supper. Florence stayed to Marjorys all nite. All stayed home at night.”

          Thur. Jan. 18: “8º below zero   We did up the housework. Jimmy went over to lake around 10 and got a load of ice. Johnny did chores. We had dinner, Jimmy got 2 loads of ice in the afternoon. Johnny packed it. Johnny started the car. Imade a cake. We made bread, Ibaked it. The boys did chores and milked. Sunshone warm, but pretty cold, sharp air, little wind. We had supper. Busy and Johnny went to Argyle. Met rest at school house after they went down after Florence at Marjorys and went to Fort Edward to play basketball. Fort Edward won. They waited for boys game, then came to Argyle to dance. Johnny and Busy took Florence down to Marjorys to stay all nite and took Marion home.”

          Fri. Jan. 19: “We did up the housework. Jimmy went to Argyle down to the garage to have Cliff Bain put his new heater on his car, he sent for at Sears last week. Johnny and Iwent to Salem Bank and then Chamberlains. We had dinner around 1. Jimmy came home. Boys did chores and Johnny drew out a load of manure. Jimmy has a bad cold. Johnny is some better. Imade cookies. Very windy and cold. Sunshone tho. Boys didn’t draw any ice today. Boys did chores and milked. We had supper and all went to Argyle. Iwent to Mothers and Marions. Johnny and Busy went to Marjorys and got Florence, stopped at Marions for me. We went to grange hall to dance. Florence came home with us.”

          Sat. Jan. 20: “We did up the housework. Imade pancakes. Jimmy went over to Mud lake and got a load of ice. Johnny went to Argyle and got a grist ground, took Mother to bank. Imade a cake. Boys came, we had dinner. Imade pies. Jimmy went over to lake with his car and helped clean snow off the ice. Johnny drew some manure and did chores. Busy swept and moped in kitchen. Florence studied. Florence and Iwashed dishes. Kinda cold, sunshone and a fair day. The boys did chores and milked. We had supper. All stayed home at night. Jimmy still has his cold. Johnny is some better. Busy and Ihave one now.”

          Sun. Jan. 21: “We did up the housework. All went to church except Jimmy, he stayed home. Johnny stayed up street. We had communion today, no Sunday School. Stopped at Mothers & Marions . We got home around 5. Iwashed dinner dishes, girls got wood and things. The boys did chores and milked. Sunshone,  nice day only cold. Jimmy doesn’t feel very well, has cold and sore leg. Istill have my cold. We had supper and all stayed home at nite. Florence studied.”

          Mon. Jan. 22: “We did up the housework. The boys put sawdust around ice. Florence studied general science. We had dinner around noon. Jimmy took Florence to school to try her general science. Jimmy went to the doctors and got some medicine, and came home then took me down to George McKernons on buisness. Johnny drew out a load of manure. After we got home Jimmy went over to Mud lake after a load of ice. Johnny and Busy put more sawdust around the ice. Boys did chores and milked. We had supper. All went to Argyle. Iwent to Mothers. Florence went to Marions after school. Florence and Busy went to B. B. Practice. Johnny McK. came up with us. Cloudy about all day. Rain & snow at nite.”

          Tues. Jan. 23: “We did up the housework. Johnny went down road to help H. Mahaffy. Boys chores around. Imade chocolate cookies. Busy made brown bread. It rained all forenoon. We had dinner. Boys put more sawdust around ice. Imade a cake. Cleared off around 4 and sunshone, not very cold, very sloppy, lots of snow left yet. Florence has a very lame shoulder. Ihave cold. Boys did chores and milked. We had supper and all stayed home at nite.”

          Wed. Jan 24: “10º above zero.   We did up the housework. Jimmy got 2 loads of ice in forenoon, Johnny packed it and done chores. We did a big washing. We had dinner around 12. Jimmy got 2 loads ice in afternoon. All thru drawing now. Around 200 cakes. About 14 or 13 inches thick & large cakes. Johnny packed it and did chores, Jim drew a load manure. Busy and Iironed some. Florence has a lame neck. Ihave bad cold, cough a lot and don’t feel very good. Busy took down most clothes, some left on porch. Nice day, sunshone warm, little wind. cold morning, warmer day & nite. Boys did chores and milked. Imade biscuits. We had supper. All stayed home at nite.”

          Thur. Jan. 25: “We did up the housework. Jimmy went over to mud lake and drew a load of ice for George Hanna to help pay for our ice. Johnny did chores. Busy took down rest of clothes. We had dinner. Around 2:30 Dave Black came and got 100 Bushel potatoes. 85¢ bushel. After he left Jimmy took me to Argyle. Iwent to bank and we had errands to do. We got home around 5. Johnny did chores and drew a load of manure. Busy finished the ironing. Florence made Jello, Busy made cake. Boys milked. We had supper. Jimmy and Johnny went away. Florences shoulder and neck is better. Ihave cold and cough a lot, don’t feel to good. Not very cold, cloudy, windy, thawing some too.”

          Fri. Jan. 26: “We did up the housework. Imade cookies and pies. Around 10:30 Johnny, Busy & Florence went to Glens Falls and got some things. Marjory went with them. Jimmy drew a load of manure and did chores. Jimmy and I had dinner. Jimmy went over to mud lake and drew 2 loads of ice for George Hanna. Iwashed dishes. Then Imended. Johnny, Florence & Busy got home around 4:30, Eddie came up with them. Jim came home. Boys did chores and milked. We had supper. Cloudy A. M. Nice in P. M. Only cold. We all went to bed around 9. In nite our the telephone rang number of times and people said there was a fire near by. Jimmy went and it was Max Morgans barns. Jim got home around 12:30. Idon’t feel very well, cold etc.”

          Sat. Jan. 27: “We did up the housework. Johnny killed hen. Ipicked and cut it up. Jimmy went over to mud lake and drew 2 loads ice for George Hanna. Johnny and Eddie did chores and went up to Morgans a while. Imade pies and cake. Busy swept and moped. Florence pieled potatoes and did some things. Jim came around 1:30. We had chicken dinner. Girls washed dishes. So I cut Eddie & Jimmys hair. Then Ifixed Florences jacket and mended some. Girls made candy for tonite. Boys did chores and milked. Idon’t’ feel well cough a lot, sore side too. Cloudy day, snow forenoon. Not very cold, windy. We had supper. All went to Argyle. Busy went with Lester. Jim went over after Rae. We took Eddie home and all went to town hall to girls Basketball Game. Glens Falls Y. W. C. A. against Argyle. Argyle won 35-13. Marion & 4 kids went also Marj, Laur & Earl went. Dance after game. Teresa came home with us. B. & L. took her home.”

          Sun. Jan. 28: “We did up the housework. Boys did some chores. We all went to church. Didn’t stay for S. S. We came up to Mothers and Marions. Then came home and had dinner. Then washed dinner, Breakfast and last nites supper dishes. It rained all forenoon, some in P. M. Cloudy all day but not very cold. All stayed home in afternoon and did some things. The boys did chores and milked. Jimmy still has cold. Johnnys is better. Istill cough a lot and have a sore side. I popped pop corn. We all stayed home at nite. Very windy at nite.”

          Mon. Jan. 29: “12º below zero.  Wind blew hard all nite. Very cold this morning. We did up the housework. Florence rode to school with Darflers. Johnny drew a load of manure. We washed out some clothes by hand, Ibrought some of mothers clothes up yesterday to wash. We had dinner around 1. Johnny took a grist to Argyle. He got home around 5. Boys did chores. Florence went to Marjorys after school to stay all nite. We had supper. We all stayed home at nite. Very cold wind all day. Below zero all day. Jimmy is hoarse and has bad cold. Ihave bad cold and cough a lot. And have a sore side. Very icy.

          Tues. Jan. 30: “14º below zero  We did up the housework. Busy mixed bread. I washed out a few clothes by hand. Johnny sorted potatoes. Iironed Mothers good table cloth. We had dinner. I put bread in tins. Busy made some buns. The boys did chores, Jimmy drew out a load of manure. Florence went to Marjorys after school to stay all nite. Very cold, below zero all day, some wind too. Boys did chores and milked. Jimmy still has his cold. Ihave mine too, cough some and have a sore side. Johnny and Busy have a little cold. We had supper. All stayed home at nite Very icy. Cold.”

          Wed. Jan. 31: “zero  We did up the housework. Imade doughnuts. The boys sorted potatoes. We had dinner. Jimmy went to Glens Falls with potatoes and got license for his car. Johnny drew a load manure and did chores. Busy made some apple sauce. Ido not feel very well. Ilayed down awhile in afternoon. Ihave bad cold and sore side. Kinda cold and windy. Sunshone some. Very icy. Florence went to Marjorys after school to stay all nite. The boys milked after Jimmy came home. We all stayed home at nite.”

          Thur. Feb. 1: “20º above zero  We did up the housework. Imade salad dressing. Busy made a cake. Around 11 Marjory, Laurence and kids came up. We had dinner. Johnny went to Argyle to get his hair cut and do some other things. Busy went down with him, after school she and Florence went to Dorothy Teffts to Anna B. Hall Missionary Circle. Marj, Laurence & kids went home. Johnny came home. Boys did chores. Johnny left here around 6 as they went to F. Edward to play Basketball. But did not play. So Johnny came to Argyle to dance. Jimmy went to Argyle to dance. Istayed home alone. Idon’t feel very well. Have a sore, aching side. Florence and Busy went to dance. Johnny took Flo to Marjs to stay all nite. Then came home cloudy. Little snow A. M. some about nite.”

          Fri. Feb. 2: “We did up housework. Jimmy took team and went down to foot of MacEachron Hill and drew out some wood for Laurence. Johnny sorted potatoes and did chores. Busy made pies. I pieled apples & potatoes. We had dinner around 1. Jim came around 3 and had dinner. Jimmy drew a load of manure. Johnny went to Argyle with grist and brought Florence home from school. Ilayed down awhile as my side and cold bothers me. The boys did chores and milked. All stayed home at nite. The sunshone nearly all day so Iguess the groundhog would see his shadow. Kinda cold tho.”

          Sat. Feb. 3: “8º below zero   We did up the housework. Jimmy went down to foot of MacE. to draw out the rest of Laurences wood. Johnny chores around and sorted potatoes. Busy made cookies, pies and cake. Florence and I pieled potatoes and apples. Flo washed out some clothes. Busy moped floor. We had dinner around 1:30. Jimmy came and had his dinner. Ilayed down awhile as Ihave aching side, and cold. Ididn’t get up very early this morning and didn’t eat any breakfast. Boys did chores and sorted potatoes. Boys milked. Cold all day, sunshone tho. We had supper and all stayed home at nite.”

          Sun. Feb. 4: “zero  The girls did up the housework. Idon’t feel very well as my side aches so much. We did not go to church. We had dinner around 1. Busy went away. Johnny went away in the afternoon. Florence made some candy. It snowed fine all forenoon and some in afternoon. Sunshone some in afternoon. Pretty cold tho. Jimmy did chores and went away. Florence and Iwere home alone, she studied and I read. Busy came home around 8:30. Cold again at nite.”

          Mon. Feb. 5: “4º below zero   We did up the housework. Florence rode to school with Darflers. Boys went down to George McKernons and C. Barkleys to see about getting a bull. Busy washed some clothes. Boys sorted some potatoes. We had dinner. Jimmy went to Glens Falls with potatoes. Johnny drew manure and did chores. Nice day, sunshone. cold tho. clothes all dried, Busy took them down and ironed them. Ilayed down awhile as my side aches a lot. Jim came home. Boys milked. We had supper. All stayed home at nite. I went to bed around 8. Rest went soon after. Florence went to Marjorys after school to stay all nite.”

          Tues. Feb. 6: “4º below zero   We did up the housework. Busy & Imade some oatmeal cookies. Busy made brown bread. Ipieled potatoes. Cooked beans. The boys cut the big maple tree down across road in front of house. Clayton came along and helped some. We had dinner. Busy and I made candy for Florence to take tonite. Johnny went to Argyle with grist. Jimmy drew a load manure and did chores. Sunshone all day. Cold tho all the time. Ilayed down awhile in afternoon as my side still bothers me & Florence went to Marjorys after school to stay all nite. Johnny came home. Boys milked. We had supper. Busy and Lester went to play in Argyle went down to Marjorys and took Florence. Junior class play. ‘Wheres Grandma’. Boys went to. Istayed home alone. Around midnight 12º below zero.”

          Wed. Feb. 7: “10º below zero   We did up the housework. The boys cut wood, cut up the big maple tree. Busy made pudding and cake. We had dinner around 12:30. The boys drew a load manure and chores. Then went down to Clayton Barkleys and brought home his bull. Busy and Imended some. Istill have my cold and my side aches awful. Sunshone. snowed some, very fine. Cold. Boys did chores and milked. Florence went to Marjorys after school. We had supper. Jimmy took Busy to girls Basketball practice, also took Florence, Rachel and Marion, he stayed with kids. Florence went back to Marjorys to stay all nite. Cold around 15 below.”

          Thur. Feb. 8: “20º below zero   We did up the housework. The boys cut some wood down across road. Busy made pies. We had dinner around 1. The boys did chores and Jimmy drew a load manure. Then the boys cut more of the big maple down in front of house, across road. Very cold all day it has been below zero. Sunshone. The boys did chores. Imade some apple sauce. Istill have my aching, sore side and my cold too. Iwrote a letter to Jennie. Busy and Imended some. The boys milked. We had supper. Florence went to Marjorys after school to stay all nite. Around 20 below zero at bed time, very cold. 8 below was warmest all day.”

          Fri. Feb. 9: “30º below zero   Very cold all day, below zero. Sunshone. We did up the housework. Johnny started fire in the fireplace. The boys have had oil stove burning, also pail of coals down celler since it got cold. Boys took team and started Jimmys car. Busy  made cake. We had dinner. Johnny fixed tire on Nash. The boys brought apples and what few  potatoes there were in the inside cellar and closed up the outside cellar. Busy made candy to take tonite. We mended some. Boys took team and started the Nash. Boys did chores and milking. We had supper. Jimmy went to Argyle. Johnny and Busy were ready to go but had to change tires. They left after 8. Istayed home alone. They went down after Florence and Marion. All went to town hall to B. B. game. Argyle girls played Greenwich girls Greenwich won 16 - 10. Dance after game. Florence came home. cold.
          Sat. Feb. 10: “10º below zero  We did up the housework. Imade cookies and a pie. Busy made a pie and Florence a cake. Kitchen pump froze up. Boys chored around. We had dinner. Johnny went to Argyle and took some wood to Mothers and did some other errands. Jimmy did chores and drew manure. Busy swept and moped floor after Florence and Idid the dishes. Imade frosting for cake and cookies. We made ice cream. The girls froze it. Ifeel better today. Altho my side bothers me sometimes. Boys milked We had supper. Johnny went away. Warming up some now been around 8 above. Cloudy sometimes, sunshone some tho.”

          Sun. Feb. 11: “10º above zero   We did up the housework. All went to Argyle except Jimmy. Johnny, Busy and Florence went to church. Istayed to Mothers. Florence stayed for Sabbath School. When she came from Sabbath School, we came home. Jimmy had gone away. We had dinner. Johnny did chores. nice in forenoon sunshone warm, cloudy all afternoon. Warmer too. Little wind.           Mon. Feb. 12: “25º above zero   We did up the housework. Florence did not have any school. We did a big washing with machine. Johnny and Jimmy went down on other house hill and cut wood. Florence washed her hair. We had dinner. Jimmy took potatoes to Falls after boys sorted them. Johnny did chores and drew a load manure. Girls did all the ironing. I mended some. Girls took down all the clothes. They all got dry. A nice warm day, sunshone and little wind. Imade Jello. Jimmy came home. Boys milked. We had supper. All stayed home at nite.”

          Tues. Feb. 13: “25º above zero   We did up the housework. Florence rode to school with Darflers. It snowed and blowed terrible. Around 10 the boys loaded pigs on sley and took them down to Sam Rouses where he helped them kill and dress them, Imade chocolate cookies, pies and cake. It wasn’t very cold when we got up but kept getting colder all day. The boys came home with pigs all dressed around 1. We had dinner. The boys did chores. Stopped snowing before noon, but wind blew hard and is drifting. The boys milked. We had supper around 6. all went to Argyle. I stayed with Marions children. While Marion, Ed, Johnny, Florence, Busy and Jimmy and other girls went to Glens Falls Y. W. C. A. to play B. B. Glens Falls won 34 - 19. They came around 10:30 Took Florence to Marjorys to stay all nite."

          Wed. Feb. 14: “20º below zero  We did up the housework. In the forenoon Johnny, Busy and Icut up a pig. Jimmy split up some chunks. We had dinner. Johnny went to Argyle with grist. Jimmy did chores and drew manure. Imade a cake. Cold all day, sunshone warm tho. Johnny came home. The boys milked. We had supper. All went to Argyle. Jim stayed home. Istayed to Marjorys with children while Marjory, Florence, Busy and Johnny went to church to a Valentine Social. Today Roland is 1 year old. Florence stayed at Marjorys all nite.”

          Thur. Feb. 15: “zero   We did up the housework. The boys put sawdust on ice. Imade pies. We had dinner. Hazel, George and Minnie came down around 2 and went home around 4. Iground up the pigs heart and tongue. Busy and Ipieled and ground up apples. Imade mince meat. Boys did chores and drew manure. Boys milked. Florence went to Marjorys after school to stay all nite. We had supper. Johnny and Jimmy went to Argyle to Eastern Star Dance. Kinda cold. Snowed in afternoon awhile, cloudy all day.”

          Fri. Feb. 16: “15º below zero   We did up the housework. Jimmy went down road towards W. Hebron and cut some wood. Johnny did chores. Boys sorted potatoes. Imade pies, Mother a Birthday, bread and buns. We had dinner. Boys sorted rest of potatoes. Jimmy took some to Hudson Falls, Iwent down and stayed to Mothers as this is her birthday. We came home around 5, brought Florence home. In the afternoon Johnny did chores and drew manure. Busy swept some. The boys milked. We had supper. All stayed home at nite. Cold day but pleasant, sunshone."

          Sat. Feb. 17: “Imade pancakes for breakfast. We did up the housework. Imade pies and doughnuts. Florence made a cake and washed some clothes. Busy swept some. The boys cut some wood down in woods towards W. Hebron. We had dinner. Florence and Iwashed dishes, while Busy swept and moped in kitchen. Iended, Florence ironed. Boys drew load manure and did chores. Then drew up 2 loads wood from where they cut. We made ice cream, boys got ice, girls froze it. A nice day, sunshone warm all day, not so cold. Boys milked. We had supper. Busy went with Lester. Jim went over after Rae. Teresa D. came over, she, Johnny, Florence and I all went to Argyle to girls B. B. Game. Argyle played Fort Edward. Fort Edward won 29 - 9.  Ihelped Margaret Mahaffy buy hot dogs. Dance. Accordion music.”

          Sun. Feb. 18: “We did up the housework. We all went to church. Florence stayed for Sabbath School. Johnny took the Nash and went somewhere. Iwent to Mothers until Florence came from Sabbath School, then we came home with Jimmy. We had dinner. Jimmy did chores. A very nice day. Sunshone all day very bright day and not so very cold. Busy helped Jimmy milk. We stayed home at nite. Iread, Florence studied.”

                    Mon. Feb. 19: “20º above zero   We did up the housework. Florence rode to school with Darflers. Jimmy went to Gilchrists to help saw wood. Johnny took potatoes to Fort Edward. Iwent down and stayed to Marjorys as she isn’t feeling very well. Iwashed a little for her. We took some wood down to Mother. We got home around noon. We had dinner. Busy and Idid a washing with the machine, some of our clothes, some I brought home of Marjorys and a big double blanket of Mothers. Johnny did chores, drew a load manure and drew up 2 loads wood from woods down towards West Hebron. A very nice forenoon, warm and sunshone, not so nice in afternoon. We didn’t take down any of them. Jim came around 5. Boys milked. We had supper. All stayed home at nite. Florence went to Marjorys after school to stay all nite.”

          Tues. Feb. 20: “1º below zero  We did up the housework. And Busy brought in some clothes. As the wind blew hard last nite and snowed, also snowing and blowing terrible today. Johnny and Busy cut up the other pig. Imade cookies. We had dinner. Johnny and Icut up the pigs heads. We cut up the meat for sausage, also cut up all and fried out some of the fat. Jim and Busy ground up some sausage. Boys did chores. Imade a cake. Boys milked. Lester came down. We had supper. It snowed and blowed terrible until around 3, then let up some. Blowed again some at nite. some very big drifts. Florence stayed to Marjorys all nite.”

          Wed. Feb. 21: “6º below zero   We did up the housework. Busy finished ironing. The snow is about 18 inches deep and some very large drifts. The boys took Team and went to lower place and plowed out and shoveled out roads, came home and did some chores. We had dinner. Johnny and Jimmy took team. Ralph Clare had his team and Sam C. and Lester L. went and cleaned out roads down towards W. Hebron and met F. Darfler, so they came back and went up Foster hill. Ifinished frying out the fat of pigs. Ialso cut and ground up head meat and made the head cheese. Busy made lemon pies. Icleaned out the meat barrell and mended some. Florence went to Marjorys to stay all nite. Boys came around 5 and Jimmy took our milk down to C. Barkleys with team. Johnny did chores. Boys milked. We had supper and separated 2 cans milk. Imixed bread. Nice day. Sunshone, deep snow.”

          Thur. Feb. 22: “17º above zero   We did up the housework. The boys took team, also Ralph Clare with his team and Lester L. and Sam C. went down to Shannons Corners and over to Sam Rouses and scraped and shoveled out roads. Imade pies and cooked beans. We made brine for hams, shoulders etc. Iput bread in tins and later baked it. The boys came for dinner around 2. Did a few chores, the rest came so they all went up to Gilchrists to clean out roads as Mr. Gilchrist is sick. They got back around 5 o’clock. Boys did chores and milked. Florence went to Marjorys after school to stay all nite. In the afternoon Busy and I put the brine on the hams, shoulders, bacon & shanks A fair day and a little warmer. We had supper. Boys drove Nash down to school house, if they got along alright they were going to Argyle, but had to shovel so came home and put car in and went to bed. Around 12 the snow plow and 10 men came. Johnny and Jimmy got up and went up past Gilchrists with them. Got back around 2.”

          Fri. Feb. 23: “20º above zero   We did up the housework. The boys took team, Ralph Clare and team, Jim S., Cliff. LaB. went down past Harvey Randles and George McKernons and scraped out roads. Iworked with plants. Busy made pie and pudding. The sunshine warm, but wind blows some and is drifting some again. Boys came around 12:30. We had dinner. Boys did some chores, then took Nash and went to Argyle with grist, also took some wood to Mother. Jimmy came home around 5 with Florence and Teresa Darfler. Johnny stayed to Argyle to go out on snow plow tonite. Imended some. Jimmy did chores and Busy helped him milk. We had supper. Jimmy took milk down to Barkleys. He got back around 8:30. Nice moonlight nite and windy, drifting some again.”

          Sat. Feb. 24: “4º below zero   We did up the housework. Busy helped Jimmy some with chores and helped him sort potatoes. Jimmy took them to Fort Edward. Imade cookies, cake and pie. Florence washed some clothes and made a cake. Busy swept and moped. We had dinner. Jimmy did  chores. We made frosting for cakes. Busy helped Jimmy milk. A nice day, only windy and kinda cold. We had supper, and all went to Argyle. Istayed at Marions with children, while Marion went with rest to the Basketball game. The girls played Glens Falls Y. W. C. A. Argyle won 33 - 11. Dancing after the game. Johnny came home with. Dr. Stillman died this afternoon around 4:30.”

          Sun. Feb. 25: “10º below zero    We did up the housework, after we got up early. Iput up Johnnys lunch as he went with the Nash to work shoveling snow. We have to melt snow as the cistern is going dry. Johnny had breakfast and cleaned old oil out, and put new oil in engine before he left in morning. Jim took milk down to Barkleys. Busy went away. We had dinner after Jimmy did some chores. Then we went to Argyle. Florence and Iwent to Mothers and Marions. Jimmy and Rae came so we went down to Marjorys, her and children were over at McWs. so we came home. Jimmy did chores. Johnny came home before Jimmy got thru with chores and helped some. We had supper. Jimmy took Rae home. Fair day, kinda cold. Started snowing about dark very fine.”

          Mon. Feb. 26: “7º above zero   We did up the housework. Iput up Florences and Johnnys dinners. Johnny went over on Griffins hill to shovel snow, walked over. Jimmy took Florence to school and went to Fort Edward after 500 lbs. coal for us to burn in sitting room stove. We thawed out 2 cans of frozen milk. We fixed ice cream. And Ichurned. We had dinner around 2 and separated the milk. Busy washed dishes. Imade cookies and  pies. Jimmy came home around 3 and did chores. Busy helped him some with chores and milking. Florence went to Marjorys after school to stay all nite. We had supper, then froze ice cream. Snowed fine all day and some last nite. Wind blew some. Very fine snow and drifting some. Johnny worked all day and went to Marions to stay all nite.”

          Tues. Feb. 27: “zero   We did up the housework. Busy helped Jimmy milk while Igot breakfast. Jimmy did other chores. Imade cupcakes and cake. We had dinner. Jimmy took team and scraped roads up to Gilchrists and down as far as Joe McDougals corner. Sunshone, wind blew some and it is kinda cold. Dr. Stilllmans funeral was this afternoon. we did not go. Busy helped Jimmy milk after he did other chores. We had supper. Jimmy went away. Florence went to Marjorys after school to stay all nite. Johnny worked on road all day and didn’t get back to Marions until about midnight.”

          Wed. Feb. 28: “8º below zero   Jimmy left his car down on MacEachron hill last nite, so we got up around 5. Jimmy took team and went over after Sammie and went down after his car. Then while Jimmy and Busy milked, Sammie took the milk down to Barkleys. Then we had breakfast. Jimmy took some wood down to Mother in his car, while Sam did chores. I churned. Jim came around 1. We had dinner. Jimmy and Sammie took team and went up Fosters hill to clean out roads with Clare and Team. Nice day, sunshone warm. Jimmy came home and did chores, Busy helped him milk. We had supper. All stayed home. Florence stayed to Marjorys all nite.  Johnny worked on road today and stayed to Marions all nite.”

          Thur. Mar. 1: “4º above zero   We did up the housework. Jimmy did chores. Imade pies and cakes. We fixed ice cream. Jimmy shoveled some snow off the roof and helped freeze ice cream. We had dinner. Sam came over awhile. Jim did some chores. Busy helped him sort potatoes, and he took them to Hudson Falls. Ifrosted the cakes. A nice day, sunshone warm. Jimmy came home, Busy helped him with chores. We had supper and went to Argyle. Iwent to Marions and Mothers. Jimmy and Busy went to Marjorys and got Florence and went to dance in town hall. Johnny worked on road today and went to dance from Marions. After dance they took Florence down to Marjorys to stay all nite. We came home . Johnny came home with us.”

          Fri. Mar. 2: “20º above zero   We got up around 6:30. Jimmy took the milk down to Clayton Barkleys. The boys did chores. We did up the housework. The boys chored around. We had dinner. In the afternoon the boys took a grist to Argyle. Iput sausage in 3 bags, also filled 4 cans and cooked. Jim brought home yesterday from Fort Edward he left out last Saturday. Had Sausage ground and mixed at Grand Union. Jimmy left it last Saturday and got it yesterday. Busy made a cake. We mended. Boys came around 6 and brought Florence home. They did chores. We had supper and all stayed home at nite. Nice warm day. Sunshone, thawing.”

          Sat. Mar. 3: “We did up the housework. It rained last nite and is warm all day, cloudy some too. Snow is going. Boys did chores and shoveled snow behind house to keep water from running in cellar, other places too. Imixed bread. Florence washed a few clothes, Busy swept some. Imade pies and ginger snaps. We had dinner. George Herzig came up. Boys did chores and Jimmy took George down some straw and came home and drew manure. Ibaked biscuits & bread and buns. Istarted up the coal fire new, as it went out. Busy swept & moped floor. Florence and Ifroze ice cream. Boys did chores and milked. Girls made candy. We had supper. Johnny, Florence and I went to Argyle. Busy went with Lester. Jimmy went after Rachel. Istayed with Marions kids, while rest went to hall to B. B. game. Argyle beat Greenwich 24 - 20. No dance. Johnny went somewhere else. Florence and Icame home with Jimmy. Rained hard.”

          Sun. Mar. 4: “Jimmy took milk to Barkleys. We did up the housework. We did not go to church. Boys did chores. We had dinner around 1. Jimmy went away. Icracked butternuts and girls made candy. Iread, and wrote a letter to Jennie. Florence wrote to Hazel.  Johnny did chores and Busy helped him milk. We went to Argyle. Istayed at Mothers while rest went to church. After we got home it rained hard, and about all nite it rained. It has been a fair day, warm, snow is going, water running fast down hills and roads.”

          Mon. Mar. 5: “We did up the housework. Florence rode to school with Darflers. The boys chored around, Johnny fixed tire for Nash, then boys sorted potatoes. Busy and Idid a big washing with machine. 2 big double blankets and many other things. We had dinner around 12:30. Jimmy took potatoes to F. Edward. Johnny went to lower place with Clarence Chapman after a load of hay. Very foggy in morning and cloudy, wind blew some, sunshone in the afternoon. We separated a can of milk George Craig brought back this morning. Imended. Busy ironed some and took down some clothes, bed clothes, blanket and sheets left out. Jim came, boys did chores and milked. We had supper. Florence stayed to Marjorys all nite.

          Tues.  Mar. 6: “Busy took down clothes, windy. We did up the housework. R. Clare came down to see about hay. Boys did chores, Jimmy went up to Gilchrists to saw wood. Johnny chored around and put some shoes on Dandy. Around 11 Marjory, Laurence and children came up. We had dinner.  Jim came home. The boys drew manure. Imade a cake. Busy finished the ironing. Marjory, Laurence and kids went home around 5. Earl stayed up. Boys did chores and milking. A fair day, windy, a few snow flurries. Getting colder. We had supper. Jimmy, Johnny and Busy went to Argyle, took Earl home, got Florence and Marion, left Johnny to Argyle. They went to Glens Falls and played the Y girls. Y won 24 - 2 0. Florence stayed to Marjorys all nite. Istayed home alone. Read some.”

          Wed. Mar. 7: “28º above zero  We did up the housework. They boys took team and went to lower place and got George Herzig a load of bedding. Imade custard pies and then churned. We had dinner. Johnny sorted potatoes, then he and Iwent to Argyle. Iwent to bank and Marjorys while Johnny took potatoes to South Argyle, H. Moores. Jimmy drew manure. We got home shortly after 5. Boys did chores and milking. Florence came to Marjorys from school before I left. She is going to stay all nite. On our way home I stopped to Mothers awhile as Johnny had errands to do. A fair day, kinda cold. Boys milked and both went away.”

          Thur. Mar. 8: “We did up the housework. We separated 2 cans of milk. Jimmy drew manure. Johnny chored around and sorted potatoes. Busy made a cake. We had dinner. Jimmy took some potatoes to Glens Falls. Johnny drew manure. Imended. And helped Busy cut out sleeves for her black and orange dress. Jimmy came home, boys did chores and milked. We had supper. Johnny went to Argyle to dance. Busy went to Marions to stay with kids so Marion and Ed could go to dance. Busy stayed there all nite. A fair day, getting colder. Some wind at nite.”

          Fri. Mar. 9: “Idid up the housework. The boys cut wood this forenoon. Imade pies. We had dinner. Ichurned and made Jello. Johnny fixed tire on Nash and did some chores. Jimmy went to Greenwich and on his way home he brought Florence and Teresa home from school. Also brought Busy and Helen home. The boys did chores and milked. We had supper and all stayed home at nite. A fair day and kinda cold, windy, Snowflurries. Florence was sick in nite.”

          Sat. Mar. 10: “We did up the housework. The boys went down and cut wood down across from Claytons woods. Imade pies and cookies. Busy made brown bread. Florence washed out some of her school clothes. Florence and Helen fooled around. We had dinner. Florence and Iwashed dishes, Imade a cake, Florence did her ironing. Busy swept and moped the floor. The boys cut wood and drew manure. A fair day, cloudy and kinda cold. The boys milked. We had supper. All went to Argyle. Iwent to Mothers awhile, then to hall where rest went to B. B. Game. Argyle girls played South Glens Falls. Argyle won 45 - 10. Dance afterwards. Helen went to game but went home with Marion. Snowed some at nite.

          Sun. Mar. 11: “We did up the housework. Boys did chores. We all sit around read, wrote etc. Did not go to church. We had dinner around 1. Around 2 Johnny, Florence, Busy and Iwent up to Hazels. Jimmy stayed home to do chores. We stayed to Hazels for supper. And went to Argyle, Istayed to Marjorys with the children, while Marjory, Florence and Busy went to church. Johnny went away somewhere else. Jimmy came and brought us home around 8. Marjory, Laurence and children were up this afternoon but found noone home so went down to Liddles. Cloudy most all day. Snowed very fine. Kinda cold.”

          Mon. Mar. 12: “zero  We did up the housework. Jimmy went to Greenwich to have some work done on his car, so took Florence and Teresa to school. Johnny did chores and went over to Wades to see about getting some dry wood for Mother. Johnny drew manure. We washed out quite a lot of clothes by hand. We had dinner around 1. Johnny took a grist to Argyle also some wood to Mother. Ilayed down awhile as Ido not feel very well. A nice day, sunshone, windy, and kinda cold. Clothes all got dry, Busy took them down and did the ironing. Johnny came around 5 and started the engine. Jim came. They did chores & milking. Florence stayed all nite to Marjorys. The rest had supper. Ilayed on lounge in sitting room. All stayed home and we went to bed around 8:30.”

          Tues. Mar. 13: “We did up the housework. I got up around 8:30 and I do not feel very well. Ilayed down awhile in forenoon. The boys went over to Wades. Sammie came over and helped boys cut wood. Busy made cake and got dinner. They had dinner. Ifelt better in the afternoon and read some. Busy finished fixing her black and orange dress. Boys and Sammie cut wood until around 5:30 Sammie went home, boys did chores and milking. We had supper. Jimmy stayed home. Johnny, Busy and Iwent down to Marjorys after Florence and went to hall to Hebron play ‘What about Betty.’ Very good. We took Florence down also Helen, Eddie and Ruth. Cloudy this forenoon, nice afternoon. Not very cold. Thawing.”

          Wed. Mar. 14: “We did up the housework. Imade cookies and pie. Boys did chores and sorted potatoes. It snowed hard about all forenoon. Very large flakes and very wet.  windy  Stopped snowing around noon. We had dinner. Boys did chores, Johnny drew manure. Icut Jimmys hair. We mended. Boys did chores and milked. A nice afternoon, Sunshone, We had supper. Jimmy went away. He called back home to have Johnny come with Nash to help him as he was stuck. Johnny had gone to bed, but got up and went and helped him. Florence went to Marjorys after school to stay all nite.”

          Thur. Mar. 15: “13º above zero   We did up the housework. Jimmy went to Gilchrists to help saw wood. Johnny went over to Mrs. McGeochs and borrowed 10 sap buckets. He did chores. We emptied Jars and things to have dishes ready. Johnny tapped 13 trees. We had dinner around 1. Johnny took team up to Gilchrists as they got thru sawing up there. They came down here and sawed some green wood for us, also some rails. Jimmy took sawing machine down to Liddles and helped saw wood. Busy gathered sap. 1 milk can full. Johnny did chores. Imended some. Jim came and they milked. We had supper. Johnny went away. Florence stayed to Marjorys all nite. A fair day. Thawing, getting muddy.”

          Fri. Mar. 16: “Imade pancakes for breakfast. We did up the housework. We made bread. Imade pies. Sammie came and helped the boys cut wood. Around 11 Marjory, Laurence and children came up. We had dinner, we washed dishes. Boys cut wood. Busy and Earl gathered sap. Marjory, Laurence and children went home around 4. they took sour milk for pigs Busy washed cans, also put rails in hog pen and gathered sap. Only a milk can full altogether today. Boys did chores, worked on Jims car and milked. We had supper. Jimmy stayed home. Johnny, Busy & Iwent to Argyle. Iwent to Mothers and Marions. Johnny and Busy went to Marjorys after Florence and went to school house to card party. came and got me from Mothers around 12. We came home.  A fair day. Cloudy P. M.”

          Sat. Mar. 17: “We got up early. We did up the housework. Jimmy took potatoes to Fort and went to Glens Falls and got his car fixed. Iwent to Argyle with him, went to bank, Marions and Mothers Iwent to Argyle Bank to draw some money out for Earl and met Earl and Nettie at Mothers. We came home around noon and Eddie came home with us. In forenoon Johnny did chores, drew manure, also tapped 6 trees. The girls swepted & moped. Florence made a cake. Busy pies Busy washed some clothes for Florence as she cut 3 fingers on a tin can at Marjorys last nite. We had dinner. Johnny an Eddie tapped 3 trees at lower house. Jim cut last of maple. We fixed ice cream. Florence ironed. Imade chocolate sauce. Johnny froze most ice cream as Florence, Eddie and Busy gathered sap. 2 milk cans full. Boys did chores. Imended some. We had supper around 5:30. Lester, Busy & Darfler also Jimmy & Florence went to Argyle, met M. Mahaffy and other girls. All went to Glens Falls Y. M. C. A. girls play academy girls basketball team. Argyle won 33 - 14. Johnny milked after rest left. Eddie helped, then Johnny went away. Eddie & Iwent down to Marions & Grandmas, Jimmy & Flo brought me home. Nice day. roads muddy.”

          Mon. Mar. 19: “8 above zero  We did up the housework. Florence went to school with Darflers. Jimmy took team and wagon and went over to Wades and got ½ cord of dry wood. He took the wood to John Liddles, Johnny did chores and drove car down to Liddles, they sawed the wood. Jimmy took the wood to Mothers. We washed with machine. Johnny came around 1 so we had dinner. Iwashed dishes. Jimmy had dinner at Mothers. Johnny did some chores and helped a truck out up road as a man got stuck in mud with truck. Busy ironed, Imended. Iironed some. Johnny & Busy put up brick wall for sap pen for boiling sap. Jim came around 5:30. Boys did chores & milking. Busy took down all clothes a fair day some wind, sunshone warm cold tho. Busy gathered sap, only half pail, mostly ice. to cold for sap to run. We had supper all stayed home. Florence stayed to Marjorys all nite.”

          Tues. Mar. 20: “15 above zero   We did up the housework. We started boiling sap. Johnny and Jimmy went to McKernons after scales and bags. Johnny went to Argyle with grist. Jimmy sorted potatoes. Imade a pie, a cake and cookies. We had dinner. Johnny came around 1 and had dinner. Jimmy drew a load manure. Johnny sorted potatoes, Jimmy helped him. Imended. A nice day, sunshone warm, cold in shade, some wind. Roads muddy. Busy gathered sap, only little over milk pail full. Boys did chores and milking. Busy & Itook the syrup off around 6:30. We had supper. Florence stayed to Marjorys all nite. Boys sorted potatoes after supper. Florence went to A. B. Hall M. Circle after school at Burgess Girls.”

          Wed. Mar. 21: “16 above zero  We did up the housework. Made bread. Miller and another man came and got 90 bushel potatoes, $1.00 bushel. We canned syrup we boiled yesterday. 1 gal. glass jug. 6 quart cans 2 pt cans full and ½ pt. Johnny drew manure. Jimmy cut up wood around and below hog pen. Imade pies. We had dinner. Iput bread & biscuits in tins. Johnny & Jimmy sorted potatoes. We mended. Fair day, windy, cloudy P. M. boys did chores and milking. Busy gathered sap. Only 2 pails full. We had supper. Johnny went away. Florence stayed to Marjorys all nite.”

          Thur. Mar. 22: “16 above zero   We did up the housework. The boys sorted potatoes. Imended some and fixed Busy blue jacket like her skirt. Boys went to McKernons after scales. Busy made a cake. We had dinner. Boys sorted potatoes, took McKernons scales home and did chores. Ifinished Busys Jacket and mended some. Busy washed sitting room windows and swept up stairs. Also gathered sap, only 1 pail full, mostly ice. Boys milked. We had supper. All stayed home at nite. Florence stayed to Marjorys. A very windy day. Sunshone some, thawed a little, very cold & windy at nite. Down to about zero.”

          Fri. Mar. 23: “We did up the housework. Imade pancakes for breakfast. We cleaned out sitting room stove pipe, then kitchen stove pipe too. The boys cut the old apple tree behind wagon house & beside horse barn. Miller and Man came and got 90 bushel potatoes $1.00 bu. boys cut up big apple tree above hog pen that fell last year in wind storm. Imade a big batch doughnuts. We had dinner Marjory, Laurence & children came up. Laurence helped boys kill big Bess. They went home, Earl stayed up. Busy & Earl went to gather sap. None tho. Boys did chores & milking. We had supper. all went to Argyle. Iwent to Marions and payed taxes, then Iwent to Marjorys and stayed with Lois & Roland. Marj, Laurence & Earl and rest went to hall to B. B. game. Argyle girls with Glens Falls Academy. Argyle won 25 - 3. Dance after game. Fair day & cool and damp.”

          Sat. Mar. 24: “We did up the housework. Imade pancakes for breakfast. Sammie came and helped boys cut wood down along creek across from Claytons woods. Imade pies. Florence washed some clothes. We had dinner. It started snowing, so Sammie & Jimmy took some potatoes to Fort Edward and got groceries. I made a cake. Busy swept and moped kitchen floor. Florence made a French note book. Johnny did some chores and left around 3 and went to Argyle to go to Albany with Tony Yarter. Jim & Sam came. Sam went home. Jimmy did chores. Imade frosting for cake. No sap today. Busy went to show, Jimmy milked. We had supper. Fair in A. M. Snowed most all afternoon. Around 3 inches snow.”

          Sun. Mar. 25: “We did up the housework. Johnny & Busy emptied snow out of sap dishes. We all went to church, except Jimmy. he went some where else. Florence stayed for Sabbath school. We came up to Mothers. After Florence came from S. S. we came home and Mother came up with us, when we got home Marjory, Laurence & children were here. We had dinner. Johnny and Laurence did chores, we washed dishes. Lester came down. Marjory, Laurence and kids went home around 4:30. The girls gathered sap. Around 2 pails full. Johnny did chores and Busy helped him milk. We had supper. all went to Argyle.  Iwent to Mothers with her. Rest went to church. Johnny was leader. We got home around 9:30. A nice warm day. yesterdays snow all gone. Warm. Sunshone bright.”

          Mon. Mar. 26: “Florence rode to school with Darflers. We did up the housework. We made bread. Sammie came and helped Johnny and Jimmy cut wood over along back cow pasture field. Busy washed out some clothes by hand. Imended some, then Imade pies. Busy  made brown bread. Around 10 Laurence came up and started cutting up the beef. We had dinner around noon. Sammie went home. Iput bread & biscuits in tins. Jim went and cut wood. Johnny drew manure and brought back a load wood. Laurence cut up rest of beef, except 1 hind quarter left hanging in wood shed. We put rest in wood shed and cleaned up table, floor etc. Boys did chores and milking. Busy ironed some. Busy gathered sap, only around 2 pails. Florence stayed to Marjorys all nite. We had supper. All stayed home and went to bed around 8:30. Fair in A. M. cloudy in P. M. snowed from 3 - 6. Nasty 3 inches.”

          Tues. Mar. 27: “Snow about gone. Warm now, windy. We did up the housework. We sprayed plants. Jimmy went to Argyle with Nash with grist. Johnny drew manure in back field and brought back wood. Imade pies, Busy pieled apples & potatoes and finished ironing. We sent an order to Montgomery Ward. We had dinner around 1. We picked the meat off bones we put on to cook yesterday. Had 7 pt cans raw meat all ready for boiler full to cook in morning. Iput roaster full meat on to cook. Johnny went down to Liddles to help saw wood. went horse-back. Jim came around 5. The boys did chores and milking. Busy gathered sap. 2 pails full. Florence stayed to Marjorys all nite. We had supper All stayed home at nite. roads muddy. Cloudy all day and warm, also windy. Dark around 4. Rained very very hard until 6:30.”

          Thur. Mar. 29: “We did up the housework. Started fire and boiling sap around 8:30. The boys went to Ben Williams auction. Ipicked meat off bones. Imended some. Busy and I had dinner around 12:30. We mended. Busy gathered sap in afternoon, can full. Boys came home around 5:30. Johnny helped Busy take off the syrup. Boys did chores and milking. Busy gathered sap. We got all old boiled down and some of todays. We had supper and all stayed home nite. Florence stayed to Marjorys all nite. But called up after school. Fair day, sunshone warm. Muddy too.”

          Fri. Mar. 30: “We did up the housework. Canned yesterdays syrup. 1 gal. tin can, 4 qts 2 pts. Sammie came and helped Jimmy cut wood over back. Johnny drew manure over and wood back. Imade pies. Busy made cake. We had dinner. Jimmy and Sam cut wood. Johnny didn’t feel very well. We filled 16 pt cans raw meat to cook in boiler tomorrow. Busy gathered sap around 4 got 2 cans full and a can full about dark. Boys did chores and milking after Sam went home. We had supper. A fair day. We all went to Argyle. Went to Marjorys after her and Florence and we went to Junior play in town hall. Busy kept kids. We took Marjory home and got Busy.  Florence came home.”

          Sat. Mar. 31: “George Craig got stuck up road so boys helped him out. Iput boiler with 16 pt. cans raw meat in on to cook 4 hrs. We started fire to boil sap. We did up the housework. Boys drew up wood from other house hill. Jim went up to Mahaffy place with Chapman to help him get a load hay. Imade pies. We had dinner. Girls gathered sap. 2 milk cans full. Florence made cake. Imade custard for ice cream. Jim chopped wood, over back and Johnny drew manure over there and drew back wood. Girls froze ice cream. Ipicked meat off bones and canned 7 pt cans, cooked in big kettle about nite. 1 qt can & 1 pt can broth. Around 5 they took syrup off. Girls gathered sap. 1 can full. Fair day, cloudy & windy in P. M. Started raining around 5 and rained about all nite. Boys did chores & milking. Florence & Iwashed dishes. Busy moped floor. We had supper and all stayed home.”

          Sun. Apr. 1: “We did up the housework. Itook care of syrup we boiled yesterday. 1 gal. tin can. 1 glass gal Jug. a quart and ¼ quart, to boil and some of other days to boil for sugar. Iwashed dishes, while girls emptied water out of sap dishes. Jimmy went away around 11. Johnny did chores. Rained most all nite last nite and this morning. Cloudy, but around noon cleared off and in afternoon, about nite the sunshone some. We sugared off around 1. We had dinner little after 2. Busy went away. Marjory, Laurence & kids came up and stayed awhile. Florence gathered sap and helped Johnny do chores and milk. Busy came home. We went to Argyle. Istayed at Mothers while rest went to church.”

          Mon. Apr 2: “Boys helped G. Craig as he got stuck up road. We did up the housework. We did a very big washing. 5 blankets etc. Jimmy and Johnny sorted potatoes and Jimmy took them out town. Johnny drew manure and wood. Florence washed her head. We had dinner. Jim came home. Girls took down some clothes and sprinkled them. Busy washed her head. Imended. Girls did ironing. and Iironed Florences brown dress. Boys drew wood. Johnny went down to Georges after a can of water to drink. Girls took down rest of clothes. And gathered sap., clothes all dried. A nice day, sunshone warm. Some wind. boys did chores and milking and took milk down to Clayton Barkleys. We had supper. all stayed home.”

          Tues. Apr. 3: “Boys helped G. Craig as he got stuck. We started fire to boil sap. We did up the housework. Imade bread. The boys went to Salem and bought a horse, Johnny came home in car, Jimmy with horse. Imade cookies. pies and cake. Ipicked a hen and cut it up, and some meat off bones cooked yesterday & today. Florence fixed Jello. Johnny came around 1. We had dinner. Jim came around 4. Johnny drew manure and wood. We took off syrup around 5. In P. M. the girls gathered sap, 2 pails full. All boiled down now. Boys did chores and milking. We had supper. All went to Argyle. Iwent to Marions and Mothers awhile, then to town hall to last Basketball game. Argyle girls beat Greenwich 31 - 14. Dance after game. M. Mahaffy and I fixed hot dogs. Nice day. Also nice nite.

          Wed. Apr. 4: “We did up the housework. The boys cut wood down on the other house hill and drew up some. Imade some pies. We had dinner. We took hams, shoulders etc. out of the brine and hang them up down cellar. Busy cleaned out barrell. Imade chocolate pies. Johnny and Eddie honed the roads from here to top of the half way hill. Jimmy took a grist to Argyle and chopped wood after he got home. Boys did chores and milking. Girls gathered sap, only a pail full. We had supper. Icanned yesterdays syrup at nite. 2 gallon tin cans full and a quart can nearly full. We all went to bed early. A nice warm day. Few snow flakes in air early this morning, but didn’t amount to much.”

          Thur. Apr. 5: “We did up the housework. The boys & Eddie drew up wood. Imade pies. The girls and Icut up the last quarter of beef and weighed up some of the corn beef. Marjory, Laurence & children came up. Jimmy doesn’t feel very well, the rest of us had dinner. Johnny drew a load manure and wood. We pieled apples and I ground them up and some meat too for mince meat. Busy made a cake. Girls and kids gathered sap 2 milk cans full and a half. Boys did chores and milking. We had supper. Johnny went to Argyle, took Marjory and kids home as Laurence went home in afternoon and they stayed up. A nice day. Sunshone warm.”

          Fri. Apr. 6: “Busy helped Johnny and Eddie milk as Jimmy is sick. We did up the housework. Icooked mince meat. We started up fire for to boil sap around 8:30. It began to rain around 9 so girls gathered sap. About a milk can full. Edwin Gilchrist called up and wanted me to come up as Mrs. Gilchrist fell and hurt her right arm and shoulder. Johnny took me up. Ihelped get her ready to go to Cambridge Hospital. After they started Johnny came up after me and Icame home. Johnny sorted potatoes. We had dinner. took sap off as it is rainy and windy. Johnny took potatoes to Fort Edward, I went to Argyle to bank, Mothers and Marions. We got home around 5. Johnny and Eddie went to Georges after can of drinking water and did chores. Busy helped Johnny milk as Jimmy doesn’t feel very well yet. A heifer got choked. We had supper. Johnny went away. Eddie went home. Cloudy & rainy day and nite.”

          Sat. Apr. 7: “Jennie came to Mothers last nite. Busy helped Johnny milk as Jimmy is still. We did up the housework. We started fire and boiled sap. Ifilled 5 pt cans meat and 1 pt can broth and sterilized them in big kettle, also 1 qt & 1 pt can broth left from last Saturday. Imade cookies & cake. Johnny drew manure & wood. Florence doesn’t feel very well. We had dinner. We fixed ice cream. Busy swept & moped in kitchen. We took the syrup off around 2. Sap all boiled down. We got ice behind house and froze ice cream. Johnny honed roads from here to stone house. And did chores. Busy helped him milk. Jimmy layed around and sit around some all day. Marion went to Dr. Borrrowmans this afternoon and got him some medicine. Johnny and Florence went to Argyle to Marions and got medicine after they got thru milking. Busy went away. Late in afternoon Imade brine for corned beef. Nice day.”

          Sun. Apr. 8: “Busy helped Johnny milk. We did up the housework. We put brine on beef for corned beef in barrell down cellar. Around 80 pounds. Itended to yesterdays syrup. Ifilled 4 qt cans and had 3½ qts to boil down for sugar. Johnny chored around. Lester came down. Around 1 we sugared off. And had dinner around 2. Jimmy is around more today. Florence doesn’t feel very well. Busy and Lester gathered sap. Nearly 2 cans full. Johnny did chores. Busy & Jimmy helped him milk. We had supper. Jimmy stayed home. The rest of us went to Argyle to Mothers to see Jennie. We stayed about 2 hours. A nice day, warm, kinda windy.

          Mon. Apr. 9: “Florence did not go to school.  We did up the housework. Busy helped Johnny milk as Jimmy doesn’t feel very well yet. We cut off raw meat and filled 13 qt cans, enough to fill boiler. Johnny honed the roads from here up the road to the Hebron line. We had dinner. We put boiler with 13 qt cans raw meat in on to cook. Also put last of beef on to cook in kettle and roaster. Johnny drew manure and wood. A very nice day, very warm, kinda windy.”

          Tues. Apr. 10: “We did up the housework. Florence did not go to school as she isn’t very well yet. Busy helped Johnny milk. Jimmy is feeling a little better. We started fire to boil sap. Johnny drew wood and manure. Imade pudding for dinner. We had dinner. Johnny and Jimmy went over to Bolios after 10 bu. potatoes in Jimmys car. We washed dishes, the girls took Nash and went to the McAuley place and met them. Johnny came home in Nash. Girls went to Fort Edward with Jimmy to take potatoes, girls got new gimham dresses. Johnny carried water from trouth and filled milk house vat. Then helped me take syrup off. Then he drew 3 loads wood. Idipped cans meat in parowax, also made a coconut pie and did things. Boys did chores and milking. We had supper  all went to bed early. Nice warm day. some wind.”

          Wed. Apr. 11: “We did up the housework. Jimmy and Johnny milked. Jimmy is feeling better. Florence is better. Busy took Florence to school. Johnny drew manure and wood. Ipicked meat off bones. Itook care of yesterdays syrup. About a gal tin can full. Busy and I made pies. Pumpkin, apple & Mince Meat. We had dinner. Imade over Mince Meat and canned 2 qt and 2 pt cans a half gal jar and brown pitcher full. Icanned 2 qt cans meat and sterilized them in big kettle with 2 qt cans leaked from Monday. Also 1 pt broth & 2 pt meat left from Saturday that leaked. After dinner Jimmy got potatoes from Bolios and took them to Fort Edward, brought Florence home from school. Dandy has a sore foot. Johnny drew  manure and wood. Boys did chores and milking. We had supper. A cloudy, windy, kinda cool day. Rained at nite and most all nite.”

          Thur. Apr. 12: “Rained all morning till around 11, then snowed hard until about 4, then cleared off.  4 inches snow.   We did up the housework. Johnny took Florence to school and took a grist. Icanned 2 pt cans broth and 2 pt meat, put on to sterlize in tin cookie can. Dipped cans meat in parowax. Meat all canned now and tended too. We had 13 qt cans and 32 pts cooked in cans, and 2 qt cans and 20 pts cooked before put in cans. Also 1 qt can and 4 pt cans broth. We had dinner. Johnny came about 2. Boys did chores and sorted a few potatoes. Imade a cake. We made sleeves in Busy new dress. Boys did chores and milking. Florence went to Marjorys after school. We had supper. All went to Argyle with Jimmy. Went to Marjorys after Florence Istayed at Marions as Mother had gone to bed. Boys, Florence & Busy went to town hall to Junior Gimham ball. Took Florence to Marjorys to stay all nite. Got me and we came home.”

          Fri. Apr. 13: “We did up the housework. Busy mixed bread. Johnny drew manure and wood. Jimmy sorted potatoes. Iworked with sink but could not get water to run out of it yet. Imade oatmeal cookies. Busy emptied water out of sap dishes. We had dinner. Johnny drew a load wood. Iput bread and biscuits in tins and made a lemon pie. We smoked half of the hams, shoulders & bacon. Johnny went up road with team and helped Howard Crosier as he got stuck in  mud. Jimmy and I went to Argyle. Iwent to Mothers. We brought Florence and Teresa from school. Boys did chores and milking. We had supper. All stayed home, went to bed early, Snowed a little this morning, kinda cloudy most all day. Snowed little around 1. windy.”

          Sat. Apr. 14: “We did up the housework. We smoked the rest of hams, shoulders & bacon. The boys went over in back field and drew out some trees with team and drew wood and manure. Imade ginger snaps and pies. We had dinner. Florence washed some and pieled potatoes. Busy swept. Busy swept and moped kitchen floor. Florence washed kitchen windows. Boys drew up wood, the big maple down across the road. It rained, and snowed at times, and sun shone a little sometimes. Around 5 rained hard and snowed hard. Everything white. Boys did chores and the milking. Imended some. We had supper. Boys went away. Busy went away. Florence studied. Imended and read.”

          Sun. Apr. 15: “We did up the housework. The rest went to church. I stayed home. Imade a cake and a pie and did things. Marion, Ed and kids came up. The rest came from church. We had dinner. Washed dishes. They played ball. We sugared off. The girls went for a walk. Marion, Ed and kids went home around 5 o’clock. Boys did chores and milking. Jimmy went away. We all went to Argyle. Istayed at Mothers while rest went to church. A fair day. Snow all gone this morning.”

          Mon. Apr. 16: “We did up the housework. Florence rode to school with Darflers. We did a washing with machine. It started raining before we were thru. Boys drew manure and wood until it started raining, then Johnny put some shoes on king. Jimmy sorted potatoes. We had dinner. It rained very hard most time since around 10. Johnny finished shoeing king, Jimmy sorted potatoes. Imade an apron. Busy made brown bread. Boys did chores and milking. We had supper. All stayed home at nite. Florence stayed at Marions all nite as long as it was rainy. Still raining at bed time.”

          Tues. Apr. 17: “We did up the housework. Imade a cake. The boys took a load manure over in back field and drawed out a lot of trees by root in that field and brought back a load of wood. And drew up some wood from woods over beside barn for Mother. Around 10 Busy went to Argyle to Marions. Itook down some clothes. Ibaked some. We had dinner. Marjory, Laurence and children came up. Jim took potatoes out town. Johnny drew up wood. I took down rest of clothes and ironed some. A nice day. The boys did chores and milking. We all went to Argyle. Iwent to Marions and Mothers. Girls Basketball team had a party at Marions. Around 20 there. Jim came home in his car. Johnny, Busy & Icame home in Nash. Florence stayed at Marions all nite. We got home around 12.”

          Wed. Apr. 18: “We did  up the housework. Ibaked. Busy ironed. The boys drew up wood from h ere and there. Got it all drawed up now. We had dinner. This forenoon the boys brought up sap dishes when coming up with wood. Busy washed them out. We did dishes. And Busy and I went to Salem Bank and John Chamberlains. Stopped to Barkleys awhile. Jimmy started plowing today P. M. up on top of hill behind horse barn. Johnny chored around. Boys did chores and milking. We had supper. Florence went to Marions after school. Jimmy stayed home. Johnny, Busy and Iwent to Argyle. I stayed at Marjorys with kids. Marjory and rest went to Social at church. Florence stayed at Marjorys all nite. We got home around 12.”

          Thur. Apr. 19: “We got up early. We did up the housework. We separated 2 cans milk. (this mornings.). Busy and I went down to Durkees on buisness. John Liddle came, Jimmy took team and went to lower place after sawing machine. Sam Cadarr came. They started sawing wood. Imade pies. Busy ironed. We had dinner. Jimmy plowed. Johnny did chores. And took a grist to Argyle. Busy went down with him and stayed at Marions. Florence came home with Johnny. Iironed some and Florence finished ironing. Boys did chores and milking. We had supper. Boys went away. Busy went to Marions and stayed all nite. They went to Jean Fahrenholz to shower for Cathryn Pendergrass. Marjory went too. Cloudy P. M. Rained towards nite.”

          Fri. Apr. 20: “We got up shortly after 5 and began shipping mornings milk this morning. We did up the housework. Boys and Itook Florence to school, Iwent to bank, Mothers and Marions. We brought Busy home. Boys went to Salem. We had dinner after they got home around 1. Sam C. and John L. came, they sawed wood. Busy dug some horse radish, We cleaned and ground it. Busy made a cake. Imended some. Laurence and Earl came up awhile, Laurence got small calf.  Earl stayed up. Boys did chores and milking. Rained some. We had supper. Around 5:30 Florence went to Schuylerville to go thru glass bakery with Economic Geography class they had supper too. Johnny stayed home. We went to Argyle. Went to M. E. church to Wedding Gown Parade. Marion wore my wedding dress. Marjory wore someones. Florence came to church and came home with us. Home around 12. “

          Sat. Apr. 21: “We got up early. We did up the housework. Cooked beans. We made bread. John L. and Sam C. came and they finished sawing wood by house at noon. Florence washed and ironed some of her school clothes. Busy swept some. Imade pies and cookies. Iput bread & biscuits in tins. We had dinner. Sam went home. Boys and John sawed Mothers wood over by cow barn. Jimmy took machine down to Johns. John went home. Johnny drove Nash down to Johns to help him saw wood.  Jim came home with team, and plowed. Busy swept & moped in kitchen. Florence made cake. I churned and mended. Girls took spoils out of trees. Boys did chores and milking. We had  supper. Busy went away Johnny went away. We went to bed early. Nice day, windy.”

          Sun. Apr. 22: “We got up early. We did up the housework. Johnny didn’t feel very well. Jim washed his car. Jimmy took Florence, Busy and Ito church. Busy and Icame up to Mothers and Marions. Florence stayed for Sabbath School. Jimmy and Rachel came, Florence came from Sabbath School, we came home. Eddie came up too. We had dinner. Marjory, Laurence and kids came up. Busy went away. Jim, Rae, Florence, Earl, Lois, Roland and Laurence went over to Darflers awhile. They came home. We sugared off. Marjory, Laurence and kids went home. Boys did chores and milking. Jimmy took Rachel home. We went to bed early. A nice day.”

          Mon. Apr. 23: “We got up early. We did up the housework. Florence rode to school with Darflers. Jimmy plowed. Johnny worked on Nash. We washed out clothes by hand. and mended some. Cloudy at times, windy, rained in nite last nite. We had dinner. Jimmy plowed. Johnny finished fixing car and washed car. Busy took down all clothes and did ironing. Imended some. Johnny went to Argyle and cleaned and wrinched alcohol out of radiator at filling station and brought Florence home from school. Earl came up to stay all nite. Boys did chores and milking. We had supper. All stayed home at nite and went to bed early.”

          Tues. Apr. 24: “We got up early. We did up the housework. Johnny took Florence to school and got cow grain. He got home shortly after 10. Earl stayed up today. Jimmy plowed until Johnny came. Then Johnny plowed and Jimmy fixed tire on his car. Imade cookies, pies. Busy made salad dressing. We had dinner. Iput Earl to bed. The boys drew horse manure. Johnny did some work on car. It has been very windy, wind blew hard. Rained little after dinner. Cloudy and rained hard and had a First this year thunder shower around 4. Rained several times after Johnny put shoes on Dandy. Jimmy split some wood. Busy threw up some wood. and made escaloped potatoes. Imended. Boys did the chores & milking. Flo stayed to Marjorys after school. We all went to church for supper. Also Marj, Laur, Lois and Florence. Congregational supper. Earl went home. Florence stayed at Marjs all nite.”

          Wed. Apr. 25: “We got up early. We did up the housework. The boys went up in back cow pasture with team after a load of chestnut posts. Johnny honed roads up road and over towards W. Hebron. Jimmy split wood. Johnny split some. Imade shells for chocolate pies. Busy made a cake. We had dinner. Johnny and Iwent over to Chamberlains Mills to Cora Saffords funeral. We went to Cemetary. She was buried in East Hebron Cemetary. We came back around lake to Argyle and brought Florence & Johnny McK from school. Iwent to Mothers. Jimmy drew horse manure. Busy made chocolate pies and cleaned up some in wood shed. We got home around 5. Boys did chores & milking. A windy cold day. We had supper and all stayed home.”

          Thur. Apr. 26: “28 above zero ground froze little and ice over water.  We got up early. We did up the housework. Johnny took Florence to school and took a grist. Jimmy plowed. Imade pies and doughnuts. Busy threw up some small wood. Johnny got home around 10 and sorted some potatoes. We had dinner. Johnny drew horse manure and Jimmy took some potatoes out town. Came home around 5 and brought Florence home from school. A windy day, Fair, Cold. Boys did chores and milking, Jimmy fixed a tire. Imade Strawberry short cakes. We had supper. Johnny went to dance. We rode down with Jimmy. Iwent to Mothers, then to Marions and kept kids.  Marion, Ed, Florence Busy & boys went to dance. We came home with Jimmy. Florence came home too.”

          Fri. Apr. 27: “We got up early. We did up the housework. The boys took Florence to school. In the forenoon Imade lemon pies and broke up a geranium in slips and set them out in a box. Busy & Ihad lunch around noon. The boys stayed at Argyle all day and brought Florence home from school. The boys did chores. We had supper. Boys milked. We washed dishes. It started raining around 7 this morning, and rained some about all forenoon. Cloudy, dark and very cold wind. Cleared off about nite. We all stayed home at nite. Went to bed early. Wind blows terrible hard and cold.”

          Sat. Apr. 28: “Ground covered with snow when we got up. Soon melted. We got up early and did up the housework. Imade pancakes for Breakfast. Jimmy drew manure. Johnny chored around & split wood. Johnny found dead turkey down in field (orchard) had been missing for 2 or 3 days, something had been eating it. Ed Pollock came down to see about putting in application for it. Imade Rhubarb pies and cookies. Busy made cake & mixed bread. Imade pumpkin pies. Florence washed & ironed a few clothes. Busy swept some. We had dinner. Jimmy plowed. Johnny split wood and fixed up iron bars in milk house for pails & cans. Busy swept & moped kitchen floor. Florence & Imade made biscuits & buns. Icleaned sap pan. Girls threw up wood and drew in chunks. Boys did chores & milking. We had supper. Boys went away. Busy went away. Iread. Florence studied. Iset clock ahead 1 hour.

          Sun. Apr. 29: “Starting new time this morning. We did up the housework. Boys did chores. Jimmy went away. The rest of us went to church. We came up to Mothers &  Marions. Mother & Eddie came home with. We had dinner. Mother, Busy, Florence & Iwent up to see Mrs. Gilchrist awhile. Jimmy & Rachel came. Boys did chores, we had supper. Jim & Rae went. The rest of us went to Argyle. Took Mother home. Girls & Eddie went to church. Iwent to Mothers & Marjorys. Johnny went up street. We came home around 9:30. Nice day, sunshone warm all day . Some wind tho.”

          Mon. Apr. 30: “We did up the housework. Florence rode to school with Darflers. We did a very big washing, bed clothes, curtains, bureau covers etc. out of the spare bedroom. Jimmy plowed. Johnny split wood and dug down on flat so water would not run all over in old cow pasture where they drew manure thru. We had dinner. Busy took down some clothes. Isprinkled clothes. Busy washed dishes. We did the ironing mostly. Imended. Johnny went down after Florence from school. Before he went they turned young cattle down in old cow pasture towards Barkleys. And he split wood. Jimmy plowed. We had supper shortly after 5. Boys milked. Girls washed dishes. Ifinished the ironing. Imended some. We all stayed home at nite. A very  nice day. Warm, sunshone some wind.”

          Tues. May 1: “Nice warm day. We did up the housework. Jimmy took team, plow etc to lower and began plowing down there. Johnny took Florence to school and took Nash to South Argyle and fixed breaks and things on it. Imade out an order to Montgomery Ward & Co. Busy raked & burned leaves etc in & around the garden. Jimmy walked up from lower place, we had dinner. Jimmy drove his car down to lower place. Imade a cake. Busy raked & burned more. Imended some. Johnny came from S. Argyle and brought Florence from school. Florence drove Nash from lower place, Johnny drove Jimmys car & Jimmy drove team home. Boys did chores. We had supper. Johnny & Jim milked. Jim went away. Busy went away. Johnny, Florence & I went to school house to school meeting. H. Mahaffy - Trustee. Fred Darfler - collector & J. Liddle clerk.”

          Wed. May 2: “We did up the housework. Johnny took Florence to school and went to S. Argyle to Moores to help Hank. Jimmy went to lower place to plow with team. Imade pies & cakes. Busy raked & burned more leaves on bank in front of house. Marjory, Laurence and kids came up. Jimmy drove his car home as Johnny drove it down and Florence drove Nash down that far this morning. We had dinner. Laurence took Jimmy down to plow and went home. Busy raked & burned more leaves. Imended some. Jim came with team. Johnny came and brought Florence from school. Boys did chores. We had supper. Boys milked. A fair day, sunshone hot, cloudy towards nite, little wind. Jim took Marjory & kids home. We went to Argyle too. Johnny played baseball. Iwent to Mothers then to Marions and stayed with kids so Marion, Ed, Florence, Busy & Johnny went to Cornells to a party.  Florence stayed at Marions all nite.”

          Thur. May 3: “We did up the housework. Busy mixed bread. Icooked beans. Johnny & Icut off corners of the kitchen table. The boys sorted potatoes. Jimmy took them out town. Johnny went to Argyle with him. It was raining when we got up and some often all A. M. Igot ready to send for wall paper for Jimmys bedroom and Mothers Kitchen & hall. M. W. & Co. Figuring up how much we need.  Busy made pies. Iput bread and biscuits in tins. Busy made some buns. We had dinner around 1:30. Boys came and had dinner. They had Garrys trailer behind car and After dinner Jim took a drag over to Seymour Hills in it behind his car, to get it fixed. Came back to Argyle and brought Florence home from school. Boys did chores. We had supper. Boys milked. Boys went away. Rained some in P. M. Igot 2 new sheets ready to hem and made out the order for wall paper.”

          Fri. May 4: “We did up the housework. Johnny drove Jimmys car, Florence drove Nash to lower place. Johnny took Nash and took Florence to school and he went to South Argyle to help Hank. Jimmy took team to lower place and plowed. Busy & Iwent up in good bedroom, put bed clothes out to air. Took down stove & carried it out. Cleaned mattress & bed with sweeper. Busy washed woodwork & floor. Ifinished up my order for paper, shades etc. and sent it. Igot dinner. Jim drove his car up. We had dinner. Got package in mail. Jimmy put in the cows. Took his car and went down to plow. It was nice in morning. around noon rained and some in afternoon. Busy varnished some of floor in good room and washed windows. I hemed sheets. Johnny came from S. Argyle. Jim came from work. We had supper. Boys milked. We went to Argyle . Iwent to Mothers. Florence went to Mrs. Gallups & got her hair cut after school and stayed to Marjorys with kids while Marj went to McW to Birthday party for Bernice.”

          Sat. May 5: “We did up the housework. Jimmy went to lower place to plow. Johnny & girls put young cattle down in cow pasture as they got out yesterday. Johnny fixed fence and turned cows up in back cow pasture. And went over to Hills after drag in Garrys trailer. Imade pies & ginger snaps. Florence washed kitchen windows. The girls finished varnishing floor in good room. Johnny & Helen went down to lower place after Jimmy. We had dinner. Florence washed her head. We washed dishes. Johnny took Jimmy down and they drew out manure at lower place. Johnny came home around 2:30. Jimmy plowed. Busy swept & moped kitchen floor. Florence & Helen made May Baskets. Johnny went away around 3. Imended. 3 Girls got cows. Jim came from work. We had supper. Florence and Busy helped Jimmy milk. We went to Argyle, Jimmy went some where else. We went to Mothers and Marions . Helen stayed home all nite. We came home around 12. A very good day, windy.”

          Sun. May 6: “A very nice day, sunshone warm. some wind. Johnny has not got home so Busy helped Jimmy milk. We did up the housework. The girls helped Jimmy put young cattle down in pasture as they got out and came up yesterday. Jim fixed fence. Around 10:30 Jimmy went away. Iread and layed down awhile. Florence studied. We had dinner around 1 and washed dishes. Around 2 Hazel, George & Minnie came down. Johnny came home around 4. Jimmy and Rachel came and brought Marjory and children. Hazel, George & Minnie went home. Johnny got cows. Boys milked. Busy went away. We had supper. Jimmy took Marjory & children home. Johnny, Florence & Iwent down to Argyle. Istopped at Mothers a minute and went down to Marjorys and kept children while Marjory went to church with Johnny & Florence as she was leader.”

          Mon. May 7: “We did up the housework. Boys took bull down to Clayton Barkleys. Florence rode to school with Darflers. We did a very big washing (3 double blankets) and many more other things. Jimmy took team and went to lower place to plow. Johnny fixed fence around orchard and chored around. The wind blew terrible, sunshone, fair day, tho cloudy in morning. Isprinkled clothes after Ipieled potatoes. Johnny went down after Jimmy. We had dinner and washed dishes. Johnny took Jimmy down and he dragged. Ilayed down a while. Busy ironed some and took down rest of clothes & lines. Very good drying day. Johnny pumped water out of well, got down in and cleaned it out, then made a new platform. Jim came from work. Imade biscuits. We had supper after boys got cows in. Boys milked. Imade cupcakes. Johnny & Busy went to Argyle. Johnny practiced baseball, then brought Florence home as she went to Marions after school. Jimmy and Iwent down to G. McKernons.”

          Tues. May 8: “34º zero  White frost on flat in orchard Kinda cool all day. sunshone. Kinda windy. We did up the housework. Johnny chased cows & young cattle around and chored around, then split some green wood of Mothers over by barn and filled Garrys trailer. Jimmy went to lower place and finished plowing corner field for oats in forenoon. Busy & Florence got dry & green wood in car also a bag of cobs. Busy & Itook Florence to school and took them to Mother. We cleaned out wood box, Iwas pumping water & pump valves broke, so Icleaned up pump and we took it to Burch’s for a new part. Then we cleaned out the sitting room stove pipe up stairs and then came home, Istopped at bank. Got home about 11:30. Imade chocolate pudding. Johnny went down after Jimmy. We had dinner. Johnny took Jimmy down to drag. Imended. Busy & Ifinished the ironing. Johnny went down after Florence and took Garrys trailer with Mothers wood. Brought trailer home. Jim came. Imade biscuits. We had supper. Boys milked & sharpened part. Itransplanted some petunias mother gave me. All stayed home nite.”

          Wed. May 9: “We did up the housework. Put the good rug on line to blow & air out. Girls brought good bed downstairs, Busy washed it off and painted big or top end of it. Imade pies & cakes. Jimmy went down to John Cuthberts after his drill, then dragged at lower place, finished dragging. Johnny took Florence to school and took Garrys Trailer and went up to Dave Harshas after oats, he did not have any as his was all sold so Johnny came over and got 20 bushel from Lyle McGeoch. Boys came up. We had dinner. Boys went down to lower place as they left trailer & oats there before dinner. Got them and went up to Ed Starrs and cleaned them. Jimmy started drilling. Johnny came up. Imade cookies  also pieled potatoes and apples, made apple & Rhubarb sauce. And made salad dressing & frosting for cake. Earl Smith came over on his motorcycle, Johnny took some rides. Johnny did chores and turned young cattle out. Busy finished painting bed. We had supper. Jim came. Earl went home. Boys & Busy milked. We went to Argyle. Ball game High School beat town team 2 points. Iwent to Mothers. Girls got pump. Florence went to Marjs after school Istayed with kids, rest went to social at church. Flo stayed Marions all nite.”

          Thur. May 10: “We did up the housework. It was raining when we got up and having a thunder shower. It stopped raining & cleared up around 8 or 9. Johnny chored around and sorted potatoes. Jimmy took 3 horses and went up in field way up behind hog pen orchard. We put down rug in good room and set up bed, put up curtains. Icooked beans & made a cake. We had dinner. Ifrosted cake. Johnny went to lower place with team and drilled. Jimmy took potatoes out town. And Isent a cake & dish baked beans to Mrs. Joe Randles as Iwas one of hostess for W. C. T. U. Florence went to Marions from school. We did dishes. Around 4 it got awful dark and we had a hard, very hard thunder shower. Wind blew and rain blew in sheets up across orchard, couldn’t even see trees. Let up after awhile. Johnny came just before rain with team. It rained some off and on until nite. Sunshone rather warm today, muggy. Jim came and brought Florence & Teresa from school around 5. Jim got cows. We had supper. Jimmy went away. Cool.”

          Fri. May 11: “Fair day, windy. We did up the housework. Florence rode to school with Darflers. Jimmy took 3 horses and went up on hill and dragged. Johnny split wood. We went up stairs and made up good bed. Iput manure around big tall plants up in Busys bedroom. Busy swept bedrooms up stairs and moped in Jimmys bedroom, then washed some woodwork. Imade a pie and a cake. We had dinner. Jimmy went to lower place with King & Dandy and finished drilling oats at lower place in big corner field. Johnny split wood , sorted some potatoes. Icleaned Jimmys white hat. Busy finished washing woodwork Jims room. Busy went down after Florence from school and saw Baseball game. Argyle High v.s. Salem High. Argyle won 4-1. Johnny got cows. We had supper. Girls came. Boys milked. Johnny went to Argyle to play Baseball and went somewhere else. Imended. Jim sorted potatoes.”

          Sat. May 12: “32º above zero  White frost on flat in orchard  We did up the housework. Jimmy took 3 horses up on hill and dragged. Johnny sorted potatoes and chored around. Imade oatmeal cookies, also rhubarb & pumpkin pie. The girls drew chunks in the wagon house. We made biscuits, bread & buns. We had dinner. Busy & Idid dishes. Florence made a cake. Busy swept & moped kitchen floor. Florence made frosting for cake. And Idid for buns. Girls drew in chunks and threw  up wood. After dinner Jimmy went to Fort Edward after grass seed and to Will McWhorters for some fertlizer. Johnny finished dragging the long field, 2nd field above other house. And took team to lower place after drill. Both boys came, then they took Oats over to Ed Starrs to clean them. Imixed grass seed. Jimmy started drilling up in long field around 5. Imended. Busy helped Johnny milk. Jim came from drilling. We had supper. Jimmy went away. Busy went away. A nice day.”

          Sun. May 13: “30º above zero  White frost on flat in orchard  A nice day, some wind. We did up the housework. We put up our dinner. Johnny brought some lillys when he took cows down. We all went to church. Jim drove his car, we went in Nash and stopped to cemetary with flowers. We were late for church, after we were there awhile Mother came walking in, she walked to church. We did not stop for her as we didn’t think she would go. We took her home from church, Florence stayed for Sabbath School. We all ate dinner at Mothers. Johnny went away to a ball game with some boys. Jimmy went away. Around 2 Busy, Florence, Mother and I went up to cemetary and attend the burial services for Will Clow. Then girls took Mother & Idown to see Mrs. Weir. We stayed about an hour. Ed Pollock and John Liddle run into each other. Jim came home around 5:30. Around 6 girls & Icame home. Girls helped milk. Jimmy went away. We went down to church. Florence was in a thing. We came home 10. Johnny came later.”

          Mon. May 14: “We did up the housework. Jimmy took Florence & Teresa to school as he went to Will McWhorters after fertlizer in Nash. We did the washing. Johnny drilled until Jim came, then he drilled. Johnny hurt his thumb. Busy swept in the bedrooms downstairs. And took down some clothes. Isprinkled them. We had dinner. Jimmy finished drilling. Johnny chored around. We did the ironing. Imended some. Busy took down rest of clothes & lines. Busy & Iwent to Argyle after Florence from school. Jimmy took the drill down to John Cuthberts and got roller from lower place and drew some stones off field down there Where he had oats and brought roller home. Broke it down by cheese factory. We had supper. Boys milked. Imended. Nice day, sunshone warm. Cloudy at times. Little wind. All went down cheese factory and fixed roller. Flo studied. Iwrote a letter to Jen.”

          Tues. May 15: “We did up the housework. Johnny took Florence to school, when he came back he split wood. Jimmy got roller from down by cheese factory, and rolled oats field, got thru at noon. Imade pies & cake. Busy gathered up old burdocks & brush down in old orchard below hog pen & burned it. We had dinner. Jimmy drew manure over in back field. Johnny & Busy burned some brush down along road. Imended. Johnny went to Argyle after Florence from school and they saw Willard Durkee as he was at Mothers a few minutes. We had supper. Boys milked. Johnny went away. Jimmy plowed the little piece above house in horse pasture for sweet corn. A fair day only cool wind. Busy went away. Iread. Florence studied.”

          Wed. May 16: “We did up the housework. We have to cool mornings milk now and milk man comes about an hour later. Johnny took Florence to school. Jimmy dragged where he plowed in horse pasture last nite. Also plowed some below hog pen for early potatoes. Then drew a load of manure over on garden and 2 over in back field. Isowed some and made chocolate pudding & pie. Busy threw up some wood & did some things in the woodshed. We had dinner. Boys went up to Gilchrists and got young cattle and put them back in field. Jimmy plowed & dragged the garden, also dragged below hog pen and drew manure. Around 2:30 Busy & Iwent down to Mothers and cleaned the front hall. Florence came home with us. We stopped at Liddles awhile. Boys milked. We had supper. Jimmy went away. Girls helped Johnny put sawdust on ice. Imended. A fair day. Cool and some wind. Johnny split wood.”

          Thur. May 17: “A fair day, some wind. We did up the housework. Johnny took Florence to school and brought Marjory & children up to stay all day. Jimmy drew manure over in back field. Johnny planted early potatoes down below hog pen. And some sweet corn up in horse pasture after dinner. Busy raked over garden. Imade pies, cookies and cakes. We had dinner. Boys sorted potatoes, Jimmy took some out town. Johnny drew manure. Icut the early seed potatoes. Busy put some cucumbers, string beans, radishes & lettuce in garden. They scrapped up some sawdust from under woodpile for ice house. We had supper. Boys milked. Jimmy worked on his car. Johnny, Busy & Iwent to Argyle, took Marjory and children home. Johnny went to dance. We got Florence from Marions and went to church to A. B. H. Missionary Circle. Mothers there.”

          Fri. May 18: “A fair day. We did up the housework. Florence rode to school with Johnny McKernon. Johnny planted early potatoes up in horse pasture and chored around.  Put calves down under horse barn. Jimmy drew manure and worked on his car. Iironed Mothers bedroom curtains, big curtains for kitchen door & cupboard as we brought them home last nite. Busy washed windows in Jimmys room and swept up stairs. We had dinner. Washed dishes. Busy & I went to Argyle, went to Mothers and swept floor in her bedroom, with her sweeper. Iput up drapes on shelf in sitting room. We came home around 5. Eddie came home with us. Also Florence & Teresa from school. Jimmy started plowing over in back field for potatoes this afternoon. Johnny took calf up back we are raising with other young cattle. We had supper. Boys milked. Icut Jimmys hair. We all stayed home. Busy put in daliha roots. Florence helped her put in Radishes, beets, carrots onions in garden.”

          Sat. May 19: “ We did up the housework. Busy mixed bread. Imade cookies, pies & cake. Cooked beans. Florence fixed Jello. Jimmy went over in the back field and plowed with King & Dandy. Johnny & Eddie took Polly over and drew out small pine trees. We had dinner, put bread, buns, & biscuits in tins. We washed dishes Ifrosted my cakes. Busy swept & moped kitchen floor. Florence studied. Imended. Jimmy plowed. Johnny & Eddie drew out more trees until tug broke. Then Johnny plowed with Dandy & Polly awhile, Jimmy, Eddie & King came to house. We had supper. Boys milked. Jimmy went away. The rest of us went to Argyle. Eddie & Istayed at Mothers and then Marions. Johnny, Florence & Busy went to party over to Urbonowicz’s. A nice day.”

          Sun. May 20: “We did up the housework. Florence studied, Iread. Johnny fixed fence down in orchard as cows were out this morning. We all went to church except Jimmy, he went somewhere else. It was Communion. We came up to Mothers & Marions. Johnny went with some boys to Hudson Falls to play baseball. The girls & Icame home. Eddie came up with us to stay today, tonite & tomorrow. We had dinner. Busy went away. Florence made candy. Ilayed down awhile. Florence studied & played with Eddie. Florence & Eddie got the cows. Jimmy & Johnny came home & milked. We had supper. All stayed home at nite. Kinda cloudy, and sprinkled some sometimes.”

          Mon. May 21: “We did up the housework. Florence rode to school with Darflers. Jimmy went over in back field and plowed. Johnny & Eddie split wood and filled car to take down to Mothers. It was raining hard when we got up this morning and rained hard around 11. rained little A.M. Ifixed my good black dress and mended some. We had dinner. Jimmy plowed. Johnny & Eddie put up the garden fence. Johnny & Eddie drew out a few trees. Johnny split wood. Icleaned Jimmys shoes and good blue suit and washed & ironed his white shirt. Busy went to Argyle after Florence from school, took wood to Mothers. Mother came home with them, Teresa too. Florence cleaned my shoes. Imade short cake. (strawberry). We had supper. Rained little in P.M. Then cleared off. Boys milked. Then Jimmy, Mother & Iwent to George and Emma Barkleys Golden wedding anniversary at Clayton Barkleys. Had dinner about 50 there. We took Mother home.”

          Tues. May 22: “Eddie was sick in the nite but all right this Morning. We did up the housework. Eddie & Florence rode to school with Darflers. Jimmy went over and plowed in the back field. (3 horses) Johnny went over and helped him. We did a big washing. Imade a pie. We had dinner. Imade a pie & a cake. Jimmy went over & plowed. Johnny chored around & split wood. Busy ironed some. Imended. Iironed some of Mothers curtains out of her sitting room. Busy took down clothes & lines. It rained around 4, had a thunder shower. A fair day, kinda hot. Windy around 4 with shower. Cleared off before nite. Johnny went after Florence & Teresa from school. Boys got cows, we had supper. Boys milked. Ifinished ironing Mothers curtains. Busy finished other ironing, The Urbonowicz family came over to see about buying potatoes. Johnny went away. The rest stayed home. Jim sorted potatoes.”

          Wed. May 23: “A nice day only cool wind. We got up early. Before breakfast Imade 2 lemon pies and a cake. We  hurried around with the housework. Stella U. came over after some potatoes. Jimmy, Busy & Itook Florence & Teresa to school. We came up to Mothers. Johnny went up street awhile. Busy washed the woodwork in Mothers bedroom. Idusted off side board & things and we put things from kitchen into bedroom. Johnny came and we tore down plaster from over stove pipe, around chimney. Put on a piece of plaster board, some plaster. Johnny came home and got Jimmys dinner as he was plowing over back with 3 horses. Florence came from school. We had dinner. In the afternoon we tore paper off from Mothers kitchen side walls & ceiling. Johnny dragged corn ground up on top hill back of cow barn. Jim sorted potatoes and took some over to Urbonowicz. After school and brought Florence, Teresa, Busy & Ihome. We had supper. Boys & Busy milked. Johnny, Florence & Iwent to Argyle to baseball game. High School V.S. Hudson Falls (H. F. won) Came home after game. Jim & Busy each went away.”

          Thur. May 24: “Nice day. cool air. Frost this morning. We did up the housework. Florence rode to school wit Darfler. Boys went up to Morgans after corn planter. Jimmy  dragged corn ground on top of hill behind barn. Johnny shelled & treated seed corn, and chored around. Imade pies & cake. Stella U. & S. Hills came after last
