Abigail Martin was born in Andover, Mass in 1676. Her father was Samuel Martin, born 1645 in Gkiycgester. He married Abigail Norton in Andover in 1651.
If you do some checking on her she appears to be one of the people involved in the
Andover conspiracy. I found a bok called "Salem witchcraft and Hawthorne's House of the Seven Gables" which explains her part, assuming its the same Abigail Martin, in the witchhunt.
There is also something I copied over the internet on her, on genconnect, posted by Cheryl Harmon Bean. Check that.
Abigail married John Safford from Ipswich in 1676. They had 5 children, 3 of whom are mentioned as being baptized in Ipswich. The first two, I believe, were born somewhere else. They were: Abigail, 1703, Joseph 1705-6, John 1711, Solomon 1713 and Sarah 1718.
They moved to Norwich, Ct. John died in 12 Aug 1739 at age 66, she died 20 March 1768 a age 92. they are buried in the Ames Cemetery.
Joseph married Ann Longbottom. they moved to Bennington, Vt. Brother John married Lydia Hebard. Their children were John, Josiah, Lydia, Jedediah, elisha, Zerviah, Sabra and Silas. Several of his children also moved to Vt. I don't know what happened to the others, including John, who was born in 1738. Perhaps he moved to New York and is ancestor to your John?

from "The History of Lewis County, NY", page 445-446, 1883 by Hough....."Susanna Martin, d/o of Gen. Walter Martin & Sarah Turner, married Dr. John Safford, from Salem, who settled about 1806, was was for a time Deputy County Clerk, under Richard Coxe, and kept the Clerk's Office in one of the wings of his house. He practiced medicine several yrs. in this town (Martinsburgh) but in 1826 removed to Watertown, where he engaged in merchandise and erected a block of stores on the north side of Court St. that was afterwards burned. He died there (Watertown) many years ago." Could this Dr. John Safford be in this same Safford line? Susanna Martin had a sister Abigail Martin who married Philo Rockwell.
