Note: John signed the Loyalist petition and was a resident of Ipswich in 1678. He took oath at Ipswich 1683. John is not mentioned in Thomas' will, which is often the case as the father frequently gave the portion to the son while, he, the father, wasstill living, or dowry to his daughter. Sometimes the fact is cited in teh will , often not. John took part in the Narragansett Expedition in 1675, was made selectman in 1697, freeman on October 11, 1682, and held share in Plum Island in 1697.
Hi Judy, I have a copy of the Saffords in America by E.S. Safford and it shows that Rebecca Safford, dau. of John and Sarah (Lowe) Safford and was born Aug. 30, 1667 and Died June 28, 1755 at Newbury, Mass. She married Nathan Wheeler of Newbury on Jan, 13, 1690. It says that Nathan was the son of David Wheeler and the rest is unreadable. Hope this helps.

The Saffords in America by Edward Stanley Safford [1923?](NYSL micro fiche G2457): served in Indian war Narragansett Expedition 1675. He had a share in Plum Island.
Read some of my other letters. It explains my reasons for stating that there are two Safford lines. They were probably related. There were TWO John Saffords, one born in Mass, the other probably in England.
Briefly, the John from England had a father named Josiah. The other John was born in Ipswich.
Both Johns lived in Ipswich and both Johns had sons named Joseph. The Johns were born in different years, 10 years apart.
John married Hannah Newman. In time they moved to Preston, Ct. He died in March of 1736 and is buried in the Safford cemetery His age at death was 73, thus he was born in 1663. I also have part of the copy of a will that mentions his wife Deborah Apparently he married her AFTER Hannah.
The other John married Abigail Martin, also in Ipswich, Mass. They moved to Norwich, Ct. He died in Aug of 1739. His wife, Abigail is buried in the same cemetery (Ames Cemetery) in March of 1768 at the age of 92.
This son of John, John, married Lydia Hebard. Among their children was a Josiah.
This son of John, Joseph, married Anne Longbottom and they evidentully moved to Bennington, Vermont.
If you are descended through the Vermont line I believe you have the incorrect ancestor (Hannah), and also Thomas.
